The Pittsburgh Predators exploded in Week 2 to blow away Cody 30-6. This is the first time the team has exploded on both sides of the ball since they won the Web Bowl two seasons ago.
Reggie Brooke, in at HB for the first time this year, won the Offensive Player of the Game honors with 95 yds and 2 TD's. The team had 140 yards rushing total, getting 50 out of FB Mario Grier and an unimportant -5 yards out of Grbac to go with Brooke's 95. Head Coach John Wertz commented on the running game in a press conference the day after the game by saying, "This is the best I have seen this team run in a long time. I was very pleased with the way the team was pounding the ball on the ground and shoving it down the throats of the opposing D. I can't remember the last time we had 3 TD's rushing. I hope we can repeat it in a crucial divisional game in Week 3." Mario Grier, with 3 TD's total this season, is a major surprise since he is the FB, and not a well known one at that. But if he keeps this up, it won't be long before the league notices.
The passing game was also spectacular. Elvis Grbac was 20-30 with 264 passing yds and 1 TD. He also spread the distribution of the passes out nicely, with 5 different players getting catches in the game. Robert Brooks had 8 catches for 100 yds. Frank Sanders caught the 1 TD pass thrown in the game by the team. The team is #2 overall in the league in passing offense with 268 passing yards per game. |
PREDATORS WIN !!
Elvis Grbac Grbac played a hard game, going 20/30 passing, and with help from the running game -- WON the game !! |
The defense also stepped up big. They produced 5 sacks, 2 INT's, and only allowed 6 points on 2 FG's. Russell Maryland led the team in sacks with 2, and Dave Garnett was Defensive Player of the Game with 4 tackles, a sack, and an INT.
With a very impressive win in Week 2, they now head into Oklahoma for a crucial divisional game. They will play the game without WR3 Reidel Anthony, but their receiving core is deep. This team looks ready to return to their Championship Season level of play this year. Now they must prove it against Oklahoma. Go Predators!!!!
