As the first week came and went so far the NL West is doing horrible. Well at least the Dodgers aren't as they started 5-1 and are off to a great start. As for the Rockies, Giants and Padres, they are as follows, 2-4, 2-4, and 2-5. Not too good.
The Dodgers news though however is just awesome, they have to have the best rotation in the pro's. They have Randy Johnson, Tom Glavine, Hideo Nomo and Tom Candiotta. They sure did make some great moves in the off season. There hitting isn't the best, while they have only 2 hitters over .300. But there highest starting pitcher's ERA is which is Candiotta and he has a 6.00. The others are under 2.25 and Johnson has a .00 ERA.The Rockies looks like they should be a contender by making some good moves such as aquiring Todd Van Poppel, Tim Belcher and Wil Cordero. But Van Poppel pitched 7 innings and gave up 5 runs and lost, and Belcher has pitched 2 games and has an ERA of 12.60. The only high point would have to be Ken Camminti and Wil Cordero who are both batting over .400.
Well, the Giants aren't looking so good but they are getting some good offensive help from Paul O'Neill, Daren Fletcher and Melvin Nieves who are all batting over .300. There starters are slumping all except Derek Ballinger who pitched 7 innings of shut out ball and striking out 9. I do feel they will turn it around, for there players aren't performing up to standard.
The Padres are doing about the same as the Rockies, they have some good pitching from some of there guys and hitting, but they are not getting a team effort. They have one guy over .400, Micah Franklin. There starters are just ok right now, having Ogea at 1.29 ERA is nice for a #1 guy.
I do know this is just after the 1st week. I feel all of these teams have a good chance of winning the pennant. I am sure pulling for the Rockies and hope they can turn it around and go 4-2 or better next week.
