Management change in Houston?

SAN FRANCISCO - In recent reports the Houston Astros hitting
coach was fired today after another week of hitting struggles.
Manager Larry Dierker had to say this, "Well, it is
unfortunate to let him go, but the team just isn't performing
well. We are hoping the mix-up will charge up the team." The
team leader in average is Brian Hunter, a free agent next year,
with a .280 average.

The new hitting coach, long time Pittsburgh Pirate and Oakland Athletic Dave Parker, was welcomed to the team Sunday, May 23. The Astros went on to a 5-4 win against the Colorado Rockies that day thanks to a good 6 innings from rookie Chris Seelbach who left while the game was tied 3-3. Donne Wall got the win. Jeff Bagwell also had a great day as he went 3 for 3 with a walk, also sending a moon shot marked as 532 ft, hitting the upperdeck in the Astrodome.

The Houston Astros have a tough week of ball upcoming. First they take on the
San Francisco Giants in 3-Com Park. The Astros are looking to take at least
2 out of 3 from the Giants as Central Division Leading Pittsburgh takes on Los
Angeles, who leads the NL West Division. The Pirates are also on
the road.

A day off for the long flight to Montreal and then a tough series. The first game features Shane Reynolds versus the Expos Top Ace Pedro Martinez. Pittsburgh is on the road to New York to play a series versus the Mets.

Finally to wind down the week, the Astros fly home again to play the Atlanta Braves who have made a lot of trades to get their team ready for competition.

A good start on the home trip, as Randy Johnson starts the first game against the Braves.
