HOUSTON - On June 26, 1999, the Houston Astros put all they could on the field.
On GM Erik Elden's birthday, the Astros delivered a 4-3 win over Erik Elden's
hometown team, St. Louis Cardinals. Randy Johnson, recently voted Player of the
month, took on pitcher ur...A. Benes. =) Seeing the Cardinals have two
Benes' and my information is very little on just by 'A.' this reporter is
not sure which one it was. But in any case, Johnson took on one of the top
pitchers on the Cardinals squad. Brian L. Hunter got a solo homerun and
scored 3 times. Orlando Miller, who was just called up from the Minors tacted
up two hits and a run scored. Also, new comer Brooks Kieschnick got 2 hits and
an RBI. Secondbase man Joe Bender, who had been slumping all year long, brought
his average over .200 and went 1 for 3 in the game with a RBI. Randy Johnson
went 7 solid innings giving up one earned run, and only 4 hits. He also had a
low 4 strikeouts. The struggling Houston Astros ran out on the field pumped and
ready to go.
The Astros are still trying to figure out what is wrong with the team and why
they are not winning. The search continues, but as for now, lets pray and root
for the Astros to step it up.
