Oakland A's Review

SEATTLE:

Weakness ?

Joey Hamilton with his career 2.05 ERA could hardly be considered weak. (not to mention a team 2.91 ERA)

Seattle has only 2 weaknesses, and they are at the botton of the lineup. But, the rest of the lineup really does make up for it. With Carl Everett batting 7th, who has a .306 Average and 111 Homers, that lineup is probably the strongest lineup in the league. The first 7 hitters all have 300+ career Batting Averages and 97+ Homers, it is probably the most feared in the league.

As for the pitching, it could be better but it is still quite a bit above average. With Hamilton and his 2.05 career ERA pitching 1st as the ace.

Hitting: ***** Although they are pretty Old.

Pitching: **** Quite a few weaknesses but pretty young.

# 7 Hitter ? -- only on Seattle !

Carl Everett with his career .307 Batting Average would only bat # 7 on Seattle.

OAKLAND:

Oakland's hitting would be great but, there is only one thing wrong, the new rule states that an OF can't play the IF unless he has FA in that position. That means the A's can only play 4 OF's (one at 1B). Then they would have to stick their 1B at 3B and their OF with FA as an SS( Ozzie Timmons) at SS and Keep Chcuk Knoblauch as their 2Bman. So actually they can play everyone they want in their lineup without getting penalized. They do have a middle-aged team, with Dante Bichette the only starter who is over 30 and he is at 32.

As for their pitching they do have a great staff with Wells, and Astacio as their starters, then they have Navarro, which would make the first 3 starters have under a 3 ERA and the fourth one( Kevin Foster) has a 2.78 ERA this year and a 3.24 career ERA. They do have a great Long Reliever in Kenny Rogers, and then in Middle Relief they have Trevor Hoffman because they have pedro Martinez at closer and they want Hoffman to get more IP's. They also have a great LR in Segui, and another decent one in Donlin. Their Set-ups aren't very good though.

A's Hitting: **** have some great hitters and don't have a single weakness in the lineup.

A's Pitching: **** Only one Weakness which is at Set-up.

Aging, but Performing !!

David Wells great career is dwindling down, but his performances aren't .

Erick Grady,

EDITORIAL NOTE : If Seattle has 2 weak spots in their lineup and a weak pitching staff -- and Oakland has no lineup weaknesses and only 1 weak spot in their staff == WHY IS SEATTLE UP BY 9 GAMES SO EARLY IN THE SEASON ??
