William Buttermaker is a very happy GM/Manager. He has
guided the Padres from a medioacre team to a top contender.
A few key trades and FA pickups by Buttermaker was all it
took to bring winning baseball back to San Diego.
One trade was one that sent longtime Padre Tony Gywnn to
Cleveland along with Doc Gooden, but in return Buttermaker
got two of the top young stars in the game Jim Thome and
Manny Ramierez.
Jim Thome is hitting around .330 and Ramirez is leading
the padres in homers. But one of the suprizes on the Padres
is the play of outfielder Moises Alou. Buttermaker had
been planning on trading Alou at the beginning of the
season, but word of a impending deal must have trickled
down to Alou as he has improved play and is posting some
career numbers.
Buttermaker hopes to see continued success as he believes
he has got a winning team. Buttermaker was quoted as
saying We have some good bats that are producing at the
right times and we hope we can get a 162 game effort from
them and also we cant forget this pitching staff we got.
They aren't some of the biggest names out there but they
are putting out some bigname numbers a team era 2.98 .
There isn't one thing i can say that has turned this
team around, it has been a whole team effort and if we
keep this up we will make the playoffs and hopefully get
on a roll and win the whole shebang.
