Before coming To Manchester United, Alex Ferguson had already won three league titles, four Scottish cups, and the European Cup Winners Cup, at Aberdeen.

As a player he was a hard-man who had played for the likes of Rangers and Queens Park. But his Managerial career was the one that has made Fergie, the Manager of the nineties.

He is a strict disciplinarian and a thoughtful tactician. He had built a very good side at Aberdeen with very little resources, It was great just thinking about what he could do at Old Trafford.

After joining Old Trafford in November 1986, he had a hard path to follow behind the illustrious Matt Busby and the not-so-successful Ron Atkinson. But straight away he started the beginning of his Old Trafford reign by giving the building blocks to start a very good youth set-up, which as you know has defiantly paid it dividends.

He made many different transfers and as Man United were not climbing the table fast enough, Ferguson was under pressure. There was talk that if they didn't win one of there games then Ferguson would go, luckily for him, Mark Robins scored a winner in the last ten minutes of the game and Alex kept his job.....THANKYOU MARK ROBINS!

After four years incharge he had the basis of a very good youth squad, and he had built a promising side. Fergie finally succeeded winning the FA cup in 1990, and the following season he brought the European Cup Winners Cup to Old Trafford, Beating a very good Barcelona side, this was followed by the European Super Cup. The success was just starting.

In the 91/92 season United won the league cup, and came a very close second behind Leeds in a well fought championship run in.

The attendance increased as Fergies squad became better, stronger and more exciting, and wherever United went they would fill the grounds with no problem. It was Fergies buys that excited everyone, with the likes of Peter Schmeichel, Mark Hughes, Paul Ince, Andrei Kanchelskis, the young talent of Ryan Giggs. And then the great buy of Eric Cantona for only £1.2 million, from Leeds.

From the basis of a great side he built his squad around world class players with world class players and then in the 92/93 the first ever Premiership season, Manchester United finally won the league after 26 years of trying.

Alex Ferguson being Alex Ferguson strengthened the squad during the summer and brought in Roy Keane, it was an English record but at the time, he was bought from Nottingham forest. Keane and Ince made a great partnership that season in the Premiership and Kept out the great Bryan Robson for much of the time, and then with the likes of Kanchelskis and Giggs on the wings and the Hughes, Cantona partnership up front it was sure to be Fergusons best ever season at Old Trafford. He got to the league cup final, won the Premiership and did the amazing thing of winning the FA Cup, to complete a grate Double winning season. Something that very few teams had done in the past.

"This is the greatest day of my life" ALEX FERGUSON, 94 cup final after beating Chelsea 4-0.

The 94/95 season wasn't as successful, coming behind new champions Blackburn in the league and losing to Everton in the FA cup final. A little pressure was on Ferguson, with the likes of a 7 million buy Andy Cole not producing the goals and the suspension of Eric Cantona, but the United faithful did have faith in him and in the season of 95/96, Manchester United, yet again won an illustrious double. Eric Cantona scoring the winner against Liverpool in the FA cup final.

But there was a lot of doubt that season when Alex Ferguson brought in the kids from the youth squad, after selling, Paul Ince, Andrei Kanchelskis, and Mark Hughes.........Alex Ferguson was very brave to do that but it did pay off, well done, Alex. It was the double-Double year.

Alex was also very brave to keep Eric Cantona at the club, after his infamous kung-fu style kick on a fan at Selhurst park in the 95/96 season, but it paid off as he helped Andy Cole and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer score the goals for Manchester United and give them yet again there fourth title in five years.

The 97/98 season was one of Alex Fergusons 'bad ones'. United finished off the season second place, one point behind Arsenal, and doing nothing special in the domestic cups. The highlights of the season include the 3-2 home victory against Juventus in the Champions League. But the season was a shape of things too come. Alex brought in a lot of youngsters and every one of them seemed to be a future star. At the end of the season whilst Fergies England players went to France he was searching the Transfer market. He spent an astonishing £10.75 million world record for Dutch defender Jaap Stam.

The 1998/99 season started off with a bang. Alex Ferguson bought Dwight Yorke for a club record of £12.6 million. Things are looking up for United as they chase yet another Premiership title.

I look forward to Alex Ferguson bringing the best club in the world a lot more success in the future, and I'm sure all the other true REDS out there are also wishing him all the best.

Through the years Alex's right hand man Brian Kidd has played a big part in Manchester Uniteds success and he is the one who coaches the players first thing in the morning, when Alex is checking his messages. He has also played a big part in the youth set-up and if Alex Ferguson does retire soon, I hope that the fantastic Brian Kidd will carry on his role but in greater depth

Thankyou Alex and Brian, keep up the good work!!!
