DWIGHT YORKE

Another Manchester united record buy. Dwight Yorke cost Alex Ferguson £12.6 million when he was bought from Aston Villa on 20th August 1998. It was Uniteds biggest ever signing beating the previous price of the worlds most expensive defender, £10.75 million Jaap Stam.

Dwight will improve the squad immensely and provide that little extra excitement to the side. Dwight isn't an out an out goal scorer, but he will be involved in the play providing for others as well as scoring the goals. He is a very exciting player and when United played against the Trinidad and Tobago international he caused the Manchester defence a lot of problems. This is what caught Alex Ferguson's eye and that is why he splashed out so much money on the player.

Dwight has skill, vision, pace, and is a great finisher. He is the kind of player that every club wants.

In 1989 Dwight Yorke was signed by Graham Taylor for £120,000. Taylor spotted him playing for St Claires after Villa toured the West Indies. He made his debut in 1990 when he played against Manchester United. His first goal came in 1991 when he scored in the 3-2 win over Derby County. That same year he signed a new 4 year contract under new manager Ron Atkinson. In 1997 Dwight Yorke became the first player since 1981 to score 20 goals in a season. His impressive displays for Villa made the Villa Park crowed love him and when he left to join Manchester United in August 98, he became one of the clubs enemies.

Yorke's debut for Manchester united was against West Ham at Upton Park on the 22nd August 1998, he played the whole 90 minutes and showed glimpses of becoming a great player.
