There was talk at Old Trafford that Man Utd were going to buy Alan Shearer, but then Alex Ferguson splashed out a mer £1.5 million in the summer of 1996, on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who we bought from Molde FK.

Alex Ferguson said he's a promising player with a phenomenal scoring record, and he was expected to break into the first team after Christmas that year. This time Alex Ferguson was wrong, and Ole had a great start in his Old Trafford career.

His Debut for Man Utd, was against Blackburn.......before Christmas, and after only six minutes after coming on as a substitute, he scored a beautiful goal past the England International Goalkeeper, Tim Flowers. The finish showed the potential of the young man, and from then on he hasn't let anyone down.

The game after that he played his full team debut against Nottingham Forest and scored twice in a 2-1 victory. Ole claimed a place in the first team.

The 97/98 season hasn't been to great for him as injury has kept him out of the side for most of the season, but when he has played he looks very exciting and dangerous

Its difficult to think that only two years before he joined Man Utd he was playing third division football in Norway for his local side FK Clausenengen.

Eric Cantona said once, "Ole is a good player, a very good player and he reminds of Jean Pierre Papin, because he is very energetic, exciting, and his finishing is excellent". Well Ole, now known as the baby faced assassin, has a lot to live up to but everyone believes he is capable of great things!!!

He played for Norway in the 98 world cup, and didn't perform to the best of his ability. But we know how good Ole is and we look forward to much success in the future from him. (Hey doesn't that sentence sound like its out of SWOS)
