So there is how the Premiership ended in 97/98.

From that this is what happened to the following teams in the 98/99 season.

Arsenal - Champions League

Manchester United - Champions League

Liverpool - UEFA Cup

Chelsea - Cup Winners Cup (Defending the cup)

Zola wins Chelsea the Cup Winners Cup

Leeds - UEFA Cup

Blackburn - UEFA Cup

Aston Villa - UEFA Cup

Newcastle - Cup Winners Cup

Bolton - Division 1

Barnsley - Division 1

Crystal Palace - Division 1

One of the most exciting parts of the season was on the last day. O.K the championship may have already been won, but the country's eyes were on Everton and Bolton. All Bolton needed was a draw, because Everton drew against Coventry. But Bolton lost 2-0 to Chelsea and Bolton's flight in the top league was again cut to only one season.

In Division One, Manchester rivals City were relegated to Division Two. What a shame!!

The Division 1 play off final was absolutely GREAT!. 3-3 after full time, 4-4 after extra time, and Charlton just clinching the victory in a 7-6 penalty shootout.

AT OLD TRAFFORD THIS SEASON

In all competitions this season United had a total of 25 home games and during these games they won 17, drew 6, and lost only 2.

United also ended up with the best Defensive record in the league as well as being the leagues top goalscorers.

As you can see overall United got stronger as the game progressed. Its interesting looking at this and seeing that the graph does have a pattern - I wonder what odds you would have got for that at the beginning of the season

Alex Ferguson used a total of 30 players in the 97/98 campaign. 16 of these players played also for their country, showing what a strong force Alex Fergusons men are. At the end of the season Alex strengthened his squad by bringing in the Dutch international Japp Stam. He cost Alex a massive £10.75 million, breaking the world record for a defender.
