| Welcome
to the second edition of Pain Tolerance, for this week. I asked if you,
the readers would like more columns each week, and the feedback was all
positive on that subject. So from now on, their will be a column out, every
Monday night, as usual. Wednesdays, hopefully, and Friday’s definitely.
Two more columns a week, hope you all enjoy. Now let’s get down to the
actual column. Tonight’s column will include, thoughts on Bret Hart as
a heel. Terry Funk as commissioner. I got tons of emails about last week’s
failed gimmick of the week, the Tori/Kane angle, so I’d like to expand
on that a bit, The Rock/Xwrestling.com confrontation, and to wrap it all
up, a failed gimmick.
Before
I get started, I’d just like to point out a mistake from last week’s column.
I stated there were only the classic four pay-per-views, I was correct,
up to 1992, but in 1993, the WWF created a fifth pay-per-view, King of
the Ring. Thanks to the reader, who reported that error to me.
Now,
onto the column. Firstly, with Bret Hart as heel, this really bothered
me at first when he turned nWo, but I soon forgot about it, since he looks
so damn goofy giving the Kliq sign, and wearing an nWo shirt. I don’t know
what’s dumber. Bret Hart giving the kliq sign, or Bret Hart wearing a Hollywood
Hogan t-shirt. Anyway, remember back when Hart first made his redebut on
WCW television, and stated he didn’t know where he was going, and what
he was doing, ever since his brother died? He stated that if he returned,
he wouldn’t want to ever be a heel, because he just couldn’t do it, and
he didn’t think the fans would buy it? Well, well, look what we have now.
It’s good to see a person begin to accept that his brother or any family
has died, and Bret, is certainly making a recovery from that, but first,
the only reason he’s in the title picture right now, is because Owen died.
There is no other nicer, or "caring" way to put it. If Owen was still alive,
Bret would still be in the lower mid card area, or even not even be on
WCW shows. Look what they had set up for him. An angle where he "quits"
before he gets his ass kicked by Goldberg? I hate to say it, but no one
else has prospered more on Owen’s death, than Bret. One interesting thing
is, Bret’s contract with WCW ends December 2000, I believe. Where will
he be in a year, and will he resign, or call it quits? Also, for you people
who think is Mr. Integrity, not sure if you know or not, but when The Dynamite
Kid, first released his auto-biography, Bret preached only good things
about it. Then, he read the entire book, and a week or so later in his
Calgary Sun article, he proclaimed that, Tom Billington (The Dynamite Kid),
had not only broken more then his back, but his brain. Is that anyway to
talk to a man that gave it his all for the sport he loved, until he was
literally paralyzed?
Now,
to the next subject at hand. Terry Funk as commissioner of WCW? Say what?!
How could this be? I thought for sure it would be Flair. Come on, right
in the heart of Horsemen country, where the Horsemen reunited a year ago?
The fans sure wanted Flair, but what do they get? Over the Hill Terry.
What were they thinking?! Sting may be proclaimed the "Franchise" of WCW,
but to tell you the truth. When I think WCW, I think Flair. When Flair
resigned a contact with WCW, a few years ago, I wonder what he was thinking?
Did he ever think, he’d be in a mental hospital with a muscular nurse called
Asya, amateur wrestling him? Did he ever think, he’d have to fake a heart
attack, or get taken out to the fields with Hogan (Scary thing to say),
and the rest of the nWo, to beaten and then left laying? Did he ever think
he’d be stripped down to his boxers by a bunch of Filthy Animals? I think
it’s safe to say, that David Flair, Ric’s oldest son, will never follow
in his father’s footsteps? David just can’t cut it in the ring. This psycho
angle, sure it’s interesting to some, and funny to others. Sure it’s getting
Flair over, with a belt. But, look what it’s doing to him. Every time he
comes out, the fans are going to look down on him. He sure as hell can’t
work a mic like his father. And I doubt he’ll be stylin’ and profilin’
down any aisle, except maybe the aisle of the airplane. When Ric Flair
finally leaves the wrestling business all together, and his son David is
the only Flair left, will the new fans, wonder how bad Ric was, since his
since pretty much sucks? Sure the older fans will remember the classic
matches of Ric Flair. But, if David ever does become a true wrestler, and
I can picture it now, David walking down to the ring for a world title
match, and Tony Shiavone, saying something to effect of "David Flair getting
ready to take on ----, for the title that his father once held numerous
times." Bam, David Flair on the same level as his father? No way, but with
Shiavone on the mic, anything can be turned around or stated.
Moving
on, Tori and Kane, have been recently getting a huge amount of air time,
and angle development in the WWF. However, I just don’t see where it’s
going for either of them. I got tons of feedback on this subject, stating
everything from, I don’t know what I’m talking about, to this is the WWF’s
master plans, and this is a rape angle. One guy, even told me how’d he
book it for the next year, where in the end, Kane would get Tori pregnated,
and then commit suicide. Some of you, forgot about the actual angle, and
just fought with me, over the spelling of Tori. It’s TORI. T-O-R-I. The
other Torrie, in WCW is Torrie Wilson. There are two ways of spelling Tori.
Just like their are two ways to spelling Christopher, and Kristopher, also,
Shawn and Sean. Got it? Good. Now, since some of you really never could
come to grasp what I was trying to say in emails, I’ll bring this angle
back up in this week’s column. Basically, whether the wrestler is, "dead"
like the Undertaker, heartless like Austin, a smart ass like the Rock,
or gutsy like Mick Foley, they all have the same aspirations. To be the
champion of that federation they are in. A wrestler isn't in a federation,
unless he has aspirations for a title. Got that? Kane's character, came
in, seeking revenge on his brother. The only emotion he felt was anger,
and maybe depression. Well, then once he got over that, when the fans began
cheering him. He tackled another problem. He had no friends, or didn’t
trust anyone except Paul Bearer, who he ended up breaking away from. Well,
Xpac came along, and Kane began to form a bond with Xpac, and finally had
a friend that wouldn’t lie to him, and that would watch his back. Well,
after a few months, Kane and Xpac, had some ups and downs in their friendship,
like any ordinary human being does with a friend. Then, after awhile, he
was lied to and betrayed by his best and only friend, Xpac. Kane then became
attracted to a girl called Tori. His first girlfriend. That brings us up
to the present. Right now, Tori is becoming mena-phobic. So she’s using
Kane to punish any man that she feels like abusing. Well, it seems sooner
or later, something’s going to happen and Kane will see what Tori is really
doing, USING HIM. Well, when that happens, what are they going to do? Kane
Vs. Tori? I highly doubt it, and since Tori is going against any other
man, who will fight for her? This is my question. Where is this taking
him? A lot of you think it's developing his character, I don't think so.
I believe it's more ruining his character by over revealing it. Secondly,
I think the WWF are pushing him in the wrong direction. You guys want to
email me? Okay, here. Email me your predictions of where the Tori/Kane
angle will lead in the new year, and don’t forget to state WHO will side
with Tori, to take on Kane for her.
Moving
on, I’m sure most of you, have heard about the Xwrestling.com/Rock saga.
If not here’s a quick run down. Xwrestling.com, is a parody site. Their
are roughly 8 writers there. Instead of writing a plain opinion column,
they mix humor in to it. Well, I’ll admit, and they’ll admit that sometimes
they go overboard, and sometimes push the envelope, so to speak. Well,
last night on a New York City, radio show, the hosts Opie and Anthony,
had the Rock on. Well Opie and Anthony, often plug xwrestling.com on the
air, and often hang out with the owner/webmaster of Xwrestling, Sickboy.
Well Sickboy was granted access to the chat and was live in studio with
the Rock, and the hosts. Well throughout the show, Rock talked away, until
Q&A session started. Sickboy got to ask a question, about Tony Atlas.
Well the Rock flew off the handle and stated that Sickboy is a racist because
he posted some racist remarks on his site. Well, Sickboy didn’t post them.
It was one of the writers, called WDB. WDB did post racist jokes, however,
with out taking a look at the entire site, and getting the feel for it,
you wouldn’t understand. WDB didn’t mean any harm by it, and it appears
now thanks to the Rock, xwrestling, might be closing. Sickboy has yet to
post a comment on the site, but the other writers state that it might be
closing. Hopefully this isn’t true, as xwrestling is truly a hilarious
site, and it seems that this was just a public relations movement by the
Rock, as to look like more of a role model. Question is. The Rock is against
racist remarks. Well what about all those times he has called woman skanks,
the fans in attendance trailer park trash, and has even stated poontang
pie on air. Yep, some role model ya got their. By The Rock doing this,
he has basically stated without saying it, "Do as I say, not as I do".
If the Rock was asked, about the things he states on tv, referring to some
women as skanks, or the fans as trailer park trash, he’d more than likely
say, "Yeah, but when I say it, I don’t mean it, it’s supposed to be taken
as joke." Well why isn’t the comments of Xwrestling not considered jokes?
The Rock just showed everyone that he may be 27, 28 but he sure isn’t that
old in maturity.
Well,
almost done this column, one last thing to do, The Failed Gimmick. Wait,
what about the last bit? "… of the Week?" Well since I’m doing three columns
a week now, can’t do three in a week can I? Nope. So from, now on, their
were will be to Failed Gimmick from each fed. Mondays will be a WWF failed
gimmick. Wednesday will be a failed WCW gimmick, and Friday’s will be an
ECW failed gimmick. Well since it’s Friday, the Failed Gimmick of ECW is…
I actually have missed the past two weeks of ECW on TNN. So, anybody wanting
to email their choice for an ECW failed gimmick for this week, go ahead,
I’ll post a few of them next week.
Have
a good night and thanks for reading. |
