B-O-R-I-N-G!!!! B-O-R-I-N-G!!!! That’s what was going through my mind as
I watched ECW’s latest offering of pay-per-view. Living Dangerously. Honestly,
I was sitting in a trance for a half an hour or so, and finally snapped
out of it, when I came to I asked myself "Why the hell am I watching this?"
Cyrus is right, Gertner attracts the gay male 18-49 demographic. Seriously
who wants to hear a fat ass run his mouth about how big his genitals are?
Obviously the majority of the fans in attendance last night as Gertner
had the place rocking.
Welcome
to another edition of Pain Tolerance. I’m sure you can tell by the opening
that my opinion of ECW’s Living Dangerously certainly differs with the
opinions of others. Not only did I think the show sucked, but it only went
two hours and fifteen minutes?! Where the hell was the last half hour?!
Steve
Corino vs. Dusty Rhodes - I really like Corino’s attitude and the way he
carry’s himself in the ring. Great talent. But even he can’t carry an out
of shape Rhodes. What makes Rhodes think that he can still work a good
match? He barely could wrestle in his the early nineties with the WWF.
He was great in the NWA but this is nearly fifteen years later since his
classic bouts in the NWA. WHAT THE HELL WAS HE THINKING?! By the way god
forbid an ECW "EXTREME" match ends with a damn ELBOW?! Oh wait that happened
last night. Now I actually thought they would have given Corino the win
here, obviously they are pretty stupid. Why would you bring in some fat
old man to give him a victory over one of your rising talents? Wouldn’t
you want to give Corino the rub from the "seasoned veteran" Dusty Rhodes?
C.W.
Anderson / Billy While vs. Danny Doring / Roadkill - For you readers out
their that think these four are awesome. Let me put this into perspective,
these guys are the equivalent to Bossman and Prince Labert in the WWF.
The only guy I actually enjoy watching is Danny Doring, however what kind
of gimmick is "Dastardly"? I guess that’s one of Paul Heyman’s SUPERB GENIUS
bookings?
Mike
Awesome w/Judge Jeff Jones vs. Kid Kash - Let’s give him a Kid Rock look,
have him come down to Kid Rock’s music and we’ll call him KID KASH! Yeah
a great gimmick there. It’s nice to see the jobber get a push now and then
but let’s face it, did ANYONE expect the title to change? It would be like
Triple H coming down and challenging Taka Michinoku from Kai-En-Tai. What
a joke. This match wasn’t half bad, but I ask you all, when watching this
match WHAT MOTIVE did ECW give to see this? If it’s seeing a little runt
get his ass kicked by an over grown man, then I can just watch Battledome
and see an average Joe get knocked out by one of the gladiators.
Jado
and Gedo vs. Nova and Chris Chetti - I forget which one it is, but one
of the Japanese wears a jersey that looks like the Public Enemy jersey.
I thought they brought one of them back when I watched ECW on TNN this
past week. I don’t even remember this match, that’ how much of an impact
it had on me. All I remember is the finishing with Chetti and Nova hitting
a tidal wave on one of the Japanese.
Super
Crazy vs. Little Guido w/Sal E. Graziano - I can’t say anything bad about
the wrestling in this match, but their gimmicks suck. I don’t know what’s
worse. The Baldies or the Full Blooded Italians.
Balls
Mahoney vs. Kintaro Kanemura - This wasn’t a spectacular match. It CERTAINLY
could have gone longer, to lengthen the over all time of the pay-per-view.
New
Jack vs. Baldies - What’s with ECW, do they LOVE the word IMPROMPTU? Plain
and simple New Jack is not a wrestler, he’s a waste of space who is only
good for swinging brooms or crutches. Every show New Jack takes his opponent
up onto a scaffold, or dives off a scaffold onto a waiting opponent lying
on a table. Well this time he went to far. HOW FAR WILL THEY GO? Until
we have another death? Owen Hart’s death was a total freak accident and
fortunately did not occur while in a match. New Jack’s insane bumps are
occurring in the heart of the match and this time around he got hurt. Well
over 400 pounds came crashing down on his head and chest, maybe this will
open his mind? Probably not. I really don’t feel sorry for someone who
purposely goes out to injure himself or more specifically others. Yes that
includes Mick Foley. I don’t feel for him when he takes that monster bumps.
However I do feel sorry for the family that awaits him when he arrives
home. In Mick Foley’ account though, without those bumps he probably would
never have gotten as big as he was. New Jack will never rise to the fame
or popularity that Foley once had. If diving off things is the only way
you can get over, I think it’s time for you to pack it up and move along
the wrestling business it not for you. Foley was still over and appreciated
when he did the Socko stint.
Mike
Awesome / Raven vs. The Impact Players vs. Masato Tanaka / Tommy Dreamer
- I’m surprised that the team of Awesome and Raven was dumped so quickly.
However it was great to see the Impact players walk out with the gold once
again. These two really should be elevated and not stuck in the tag division.
Rhino
vs. Super Crazy - Good match, not great. It could have done without the
interference and presence of the outside foes. I really don’t think Super
Crazy is worth the television title. Nor do I think Rhino ready for it
either. I can see why they didn’t want Rhino with the title. When Rob Van
Dam does come back they are most likely going to use Rhino as a stepping
stone for Van Dam and they didn’t want him to have the title so that Van
Dam can get the clean pin and then move up the ladder to the Heavyweight
title. It’s inevitable. Rob Van Dam is considered the franchise, give him
the belt.
Judging
from my match by match review, you’d think I totally hated this show. Not
entirely, some things did catch my eye. The Impact Players really put on
a
great match, Guido and Crazy put on a great match, not their best though.
Even though I hated most of the show, I still believe the wrestlers deserve
the credit for attempting to please the fans.
It
looks as thought Torrie may be breaking away from Kidman. If you look at
WCW.com one of the editorials is titled "Torrie is Ruining Kidman’s Career."
That may be the start, if she did break up from him where would she go?
I really think this pair could be elevated and could last, they should
really break Symphony and Maestro up. Symphony has some very good potential
and wouldn’t be bad as Vampiro’s valet, mind you they would have to totally
repackage her.
Tonight
Chris Candido and Tammy Sytch may debut on WCW’s Nitro. Tonight’s the night,
hopefully. Tammy is great addition to the locker room as she was heavily
involved in the success of Dawn Marie. Imagine what she could do for Torrie
Wilson, or one of the other valets. I do hope Tammy gets more involved
in the matches.
One
thing that really sucks about the wrestling video game market is, within
four to five months they have a bigger better more flashier game for each
federation and once you run out and buy the newer game your stuck with
the old game that you never play anymore. For example I bought Attitude
as soon as it came out back in the summer, and since I have not played
WWF Warzone. Now I’m stuck at cross road. I own both N64 and Playstation
but do not know which game to buy, WWF Wrestlemania 2000 for N64 or WWF
Smackdown for the PSX. On top of that, the playstation is basically going
to be non-existent in the near future, as Sony is stopping the manufacturing
of new PSX games and will create only for PSX2. So Smackdown is the last
wrestling game for PSX. If you would like to send me your opinion on which
game to buy WWF Wrestlemania or Smackdown. I’m going to only buy one, what’s
the use of buying two wrestling games at the same time, even if they are
for different systems.
That’s
all for today, I’ll be back later on in the week with another edition of
Pain Tolerance, until then enjoy the wrestling and thanks for reading.... |
