The Word by Amethyst

September 1998

Well, its the end of the month and both WCW and WWF pay per views have been shown. All I can say about both of them is that they were very disappointing. Don't get me wrong, they had their moments here and there, but as a whole it didn't do it for me.

Lets talked about WCW War Games. For weeks wrestling fans have been given all this hype about the Warrior for what? So he can chase Hogan around the wrestling ring? That's what we got. This was the Warrior's first appearance in the ring wrestling in eight years and he did nothing. I never really like the Warrior anyway, even when he was the Ultimate Warrior. He just looked like a grown man acting stupid, but hey there seems to be many out there who buy into it.

Here we had nine of the top wrestlers (make that eight excluding Stevie Ray), and they were put into a cage. On paper this looks good, this looks really good. Pulling it off, it fell short. First off, Piper should quit trying to make everyone else think with a straight mind, and get his mind on straight. Do you want to be commissioner of WCW or a wrestler? When he figures that out things will be fine.

Then we have Hogan, you don't even want to get me started there. Hogan is so old and slow that he needs to quit while he's ahead. All he's doing is hanging on that little piece of string on the curtain while Goldberg is trying his hardest to kick him off.

Stevie Ray, well he didn't even belong in the same ring with the others. He is just not ready for main event status. He needs to wrestle some big guys for that.

The Hitman, what are they doing to him??? He was doing really well, until Hogan got there. If WCW would allow the Hitman to be the Hitman, then he would be just fine.

The only team together was the Wolfpac, and they made them look like second rate wrestlers. I'd have to watch the tape to see exactly what Kevin Nash did after he entered the cage.

The whole thing was focused on Hogan and the Warrior, that until the bell rang I had no idea the match was over. They should have a rematch because the Warrior came out with all his smoke and the remaining wrestlers in the ring passed out. Couldn't we call that a disqualification on the Warrior? Anyway, stupid idea, but hey this is wrestling. They have had a lot of those lately.

The biggest one is DDP won??? I like DDP, I think he has talent and he is the people champion, but to win, I don't get it. Of course, if you didn't notice the only one he could get that Diamond Cutter on was Stevie Ray, who didn't belong there in the first place. I'd like to see him get that on the Hitman, Sting, or Nash. It just wouldn't happen.

Now on to the WWF Break Down. Once again the WWF forced us into about two hours of nothing. My real problem is the Val Venis vs Dustin Runnels match. This was so disturbing to watch. This whole story line made me lose the little respect for the WWF I had, which wasn't much to begin with. Look at the story line closely, the home movies. Doesn't it sound a little like what they were having Brian Pillman (RIP) do about this time last year? The only exception is that Terri was present in the movies this time. Most of the adult wrestling fans grew up on the WWF, I know I have. I have two nephews who will never watch the WWF because its just not suitable for them. If the WWF wants to continue this adult oriented show then go to HBO, Showtime, or Cinemax. At least there, you can do whatever you want.

The only matches worth watching was the cage match and the main event, and yes I believe that Stone Cold was screwed by the WWF. This man makes them millions of dollars and they treat him like an alley cat.
Whatever the WCW or the WWF do for the next pay per view, there is only one way to go and that's up because this month was down at the bottom.

Until next month...
