As in most sports today much of the equipment available is hi tech and expensive. Fortunately starting with the basics presents no problem and as one gains in experience so one can add what is needed for specific climbs. The club provides no equipment with the exception of rock climbing equipment on official meets. All participants are expected to be self sufficient for the meets they attend. Should you need advice the experienced members will be only too happy to point out what is generally needed. The more questions you ask the better prepared you will be when you purchase your kit. Basics that are needed for a day meet would normally include a daypack, hat, sun screen, water, weatherproof anorak, torch, suitable stout footwear, lunch and some snacks. Your first few meets will show you what other mountaineers favour in the line of equipment. Skilled mountaineers carry only essential lightweight equipment
