Obituary:
FUNERAL RITES SUNDAY FOR JOHN HENLEY AKERS
Funeral services for JOHN HENLEY AKERS, octogenarian of the New Hampton community, were held Sunday afternoon at the Methodist Church in that town.  Rev. Vincent Gray of Albany conducted the services.  Burial was in Foster Cemetery.

Following is the obituary, as prepared by the relatives and Rev. Gray:

JOHN HENLEY AKERS, son of JESSE AKERS, was born May 4, 1862, in Tazewell County, Virginia.  He attended the school near his home and when a man, was married to REBECCA CORELL of his home neighborhood.  For many years they lived and farmed in Virginia.  In 1900, with other members of his father's family and relatives, they moved to Gentry County, Missouri.  In 1902, he moved to his present home east of New Hampton where his wife died in September of 1904.  Both he and his wife had been members of the Thompson Valley Presbyterian church in Thompson Valley, Virginia and on July 1900, they, with their friends, S.D. Dawson and his wife, Mary J. Dawson, who had lived in the same community and belonged to the same church, all four united with the New Hampton Presbyterian church, Rev. C.O. Blayney being moderator of the session and A.L. Funk the clerk.  In August of 1907, he was united in marriage to Miss ALICE CRIGGER of Bethany.  They continued the home begun in 1902.  Two children were born to them, WILLIAM CORRELL and CHARLES ARTHUR, who died in March of 1919.  Mrs. AKERS died December 19, 1938.  CORRELL and his wife soon moved to the old home place where they continued to make a home for his father.  He was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge and besides membership in the New Hampton Presbyterian church, he also served as a trustee for many years.  He completed his work here on May 7, 1943, being 81 years of age and having been granted his wish that he should not be ill and a care for anyone.  He leaves his son, CORRELL and daughter-in-law, Mrs. EUNICE AKERS, of the home, four grandchildren, VIRGINIA LEE, FRANK NELSON, EUNICE RUTH and MARY ANN.  He also leaves one sister, Mrs. JOSEPH VAUGHN of Bluefield, Virginia, his brother, JAMES F. AKERS and his two sisters, GENEVA, the wife of ROBERT PORTER and BETTY AKERS having preceded him in death.  He is also survived by the following nieces and nephews:  ORVELLS VAUGHN, who lives in Alabama, Mrs. GRACE ROSE of West Virginia, WILLIAM AKERS, who lives in Tazewell County, Virginia, HENRY AKERS, who lives in West Virginia and VICIE, OLLIE and NELLIE AKERS.
