Here is a baby giraffe with one of its parents. Isn't the baby cute? A baby giraffe is called a calf, regardless of sex. Young giraffes are not allowed to go out into the country to feed early in their lives. The mothers, therefore, leave their babies in "kindergartens." One female giraffe cares for all the babies.
Here is another baby with its mother. A newborn giraffe can be over 6 feet tall. During the baby's first week of life, it can grow more than one inch a day!! Twins are very rare.
	Giraffes have horns on their heads. These "horns" are actually bony lumps covered with skin and hair. Male giraffes use their horns to fight!
