Lassie followed Vova home from school when he was in his second week
of
Kindergarten (8 years ago). English was new to him then and he
was just
learning the alphabet. It was "B" week. So first
he named the cat "Boy".
Later we found out it was a girl, so Vova re-named her
"Lassie". We thought
it was cute, so didn't tell him it was a dog's name.
Lassie's real owners lived 2 houses down the street, and they were
frantic
when their cat disappeared and they put up signs all over the
neighborhood.
We brought the cat back and they gave us TWENTY DOLLARS! But the
cat came
back the very next day. They didn't give us any more money or
put up any
more signs. So she was our cat after that.
Lassie loved to sneak into the house and slip upstairs into Vova's
room and
watch us all frantically try to catch her.
One time Lassie slipped into mom's car when she came home for lunch
from
work. On the way back she scared mom to death when she tapped on
her shoulder
from the back seat. She swerved and almost crashed the car.
Lassie loved to be held by Vova when he waited for the bus.
Vova and his family will miss Lassie.
