Prevention of Whooping Cough
 

 There is a vaccination against whooping cough, which is offered to most babies in the early months of life. There is medication that is effective against whooping cough but it may have side effects.Whooping cough occurs in 85% of all unimmunised children, so it is very importane to get the vaccine.Whooping Cough can be treated with erythromycin, which is a medicine. When someone in the family is infected, it is usual to treat everyone in the family at the same time so that the bug doesn't spread. The vaccine for whooping cough is given initially at 2, 4, 6, and 12-18 months of age. The last dose of vaccine is given at 5 years of age.
