Pertussis
Symptoms

The Beginning symptoms of Pertussis are similar to the symptoms of a common cold. It starts with a runny nose, a fever, a mild cough and a poor appetite. This would continue for two to three weeks. After this period, severe coughing would happen for over one minute, between coughing, the infected person would gasp for air in a whooping sound. This would continue until the person vomits. While coughing, lips and nails may turn blue because of the lack of oxygen. Smaller infants may not 'whoop' like older children and adults do. Often after the person vomits, they feel fine. Pertussis may be a dangerous disease because
seizures and even death may occur.
