The Age Thirteen To Sixteen Years Category Winners:
First Place, and ALSO The OVERALL WINNER IN ALL AGE CATEGORIES!! Way To Go!!
Waikeeta!!
My mother is the best mother to me because she has been raising
three children by herself. My mother is the best because she doesn't
depend on anyone. She is a role model, a leader, a hard worker, and a
believer in Christ. My mother believes that education is the most
important thing in the world besides Jesus. My mother is the best
mother because she believes that everyone deserves to be treated fairly.
In our family we sit down and talk and she talks to us about social
issues. My mother is the best mother because she works hard to give us
the things that she didin't have. She teaches us that material things
are not all that important. She teaches us that love comes frim the
heart. My mother is the best mother because strives for only the best.
To me my mother is the best because she's an strong african-american
female surviving in the world on her own, while maintaing a job and
raising three children on her own. That's why my mother is the best.
Our Second Place Winner In This Category: Lynsey!
This is a story of my mother and why
she is so special to me, but first I shall answer
the question of, what is a mother? A mother is
someone who takes care of you from the time you are
a child until the time you're an adult. She should
be there to protect you through thick and thin. But
you have to respect your mother. Here is why I
respect mine.
My mother is great, she is my biological mother.
I have lived with her, dad and my brother since I
was born. She has given me everything a child needs,
which is love. She and I are what you could call
best friends. My mother has never let me down and i
am sure she never will untill the day she dies.
There are times when I have stepped out of line
and my mother had given a small shout at me, I felt
as if she was in the wrong but now i have realized
she only wants the best for me and I respect that.
The only time she has ever lied to me was when she
told me that sana claus was real, that wasn't bad,
was it?
When ever I couldn't sleep at night or scared of
the dark my mother would be there to make me happy,
or when I am ill she'd always be there to make me
feel better. She is still here filling my life with
glory and one day I am going to repay her as she is
the best mother in the world!
Thank you mum.

The Adult Category Winners...
The First Place Winner In This Category Is: Natalie....
An Open Letter to Mom
Dearest Mom,
Words cannot express how much you mean to me. The love you showered
and the
patience you gave. I know the difficult time you had to borne me in
this world,
teaching us life's lessons, and handing me the tools to be at peace
with myself.
I remember years ago when I saw you cry ... when your marriage to dad
was nearly on the verge
of breaking up, the weight of problems you carried in your shoulders
when Dad lost the
election, and the amount of debt we owe the bank. Instead of being
bitter you prayed.
Ahhh you said to me, "God is merely testing us." I lost my faith and
mocked you when
you go to church. But slowly and with hope in your heart,
reintroduced me to God, our Lord and Savior.
As I reminisce, I could not recall a single memory without you in it.
I guess it is
because you have never left me at all.
Mom, I admire your strength, optimism, diligence and intelligence.
Your utmost faith that
my future will be great. I know that With you at my side I know that
it will be...
But even if isn't you taught me to trod on and accept my fate "que
sera, sera."
On this very special day, I would like to say I love, respect, and am
proud of you Mom. I
am very lucky to have you as my mother.
Happy Mother's Day, Mommy!
Your loving daughter,
Natalie
Our Second Place Winner In This Category: Fran.....
My Mom is the best mom in the world because she put us girls
ahead of everything. I am the youngest of six girls. My mom raised us
by herself during the late 60's and through the 70's.
My parents divorced when I was 4 1/2. My mom always made sure that I
was to the specialist that I needed to go to then.
We were always aloud to have friends over to visit and for the night.
If someone needed a place to stay they were welcome. She would allow
us to have big slumber parties. A sister's friend was having terrible
family problems, so she let her move in for a couple years.
While being a single parent, she made us live by high morals. She
always knew who we were going out with. A curfew was set and you
didn't question it. She would even blink the porch light if you didn't
come in soon enough to suit her.
She always puts others first. We had to put her in a nursing home this
past year. Now she need to rely on others to take care of her. She
needs help getting up and around. When I visit her, her main concern
is if the other residents are comfortable. She will ask me to do
something for them, or see if they need anything. These are the types
of mothers that we need today to help the teens that go astray.
