 1.

 RIO GRANDE VALLEY MX PARKWAY

For Directions: From Corpus Christi take Hwy. 77/83 into Brownsville and exit right on Alton Gloor Rd. Go about two miles and look for the track on the left-hand side.

Practice days/hours/fee: Daily except the week before a race/sunrise to sunset/$50 annual family membership.

Race days/fee/gate: Last Sunday/members $15, non-member $20/no gate fee for members, non-members $5, six and under and 60 and over free.

Layout: The Rio Grande track is on flat terrain with tabletop-type jumps. The dirt on the one-mile track is sandy clay. The best place to start on the 20-man, forward-falling starting gate is on the outside (close to the release lever).

Background: The Rio Grande Valley MX Assn. opened the park four years ago to give people a place to ride. After clearing the brush from the 15 acres, the RGVMXA -with the help of Steve Wise- built a rider friendly track. The association is heavily involved in vinage racing. The local star is Michael Peacock.

 LAREDO INTERNATIONAL SUPERCROSS PARK

Directions: Laredo is on the Texas/Mexico boarder. Take Hwy. 359 one mile past Loop 20 and look for the track on the left-hand side.

Practice days/hours/fee: Saturday and Sundav/'noon to 8:00 p.m. $5, spectators free.

Race days/fee/gate: In the planning.

Layout: Laredo is a hard-pack supercrcss track with lots of jumps. A backwards falling starting gate is in the works.

Background: Caesar Lombrana and his buddies decided to build a track on family property. The result was a supercross track complete with giant doubles, triples, tabletops and a long rhythm section. "Whoever has the nerve to jump will really like this track," says Caesar. Mexican star Eric Vallejo is the biggest name rider to have set knob at Laredo. It is just a practice track now, but races are planned.

 OSO CREEK MX

Directions: Follow l-37 south toward Corpus Christi and exit Rand Morgan. Turn right, go for six miles to the Hwy. 77 exit, turn left and make the first right onto CIarkwood Rd., follow for a mile, turn right on country Road 62 and follow down 3/4 mile to track entrance on right-hand side.

Practice days/hours/fee: Daily/6:00 p.m. to I 1:00 p.m./$60 annual family membership ($30 for those who live more than 50 miles from Corpus Christi). Organized practice for members and non-members is held every Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. for a $3 charge (spectators free).

Race days/fee/gate: First and third Saturday during summer (April through October) and first and third Sunday during winter (November through March)/$15,$20 non-members, $20 all pros/$5, under 12 free, and $3 for military and police officers.

Layout: A 1.25-mile supercoss design with a forgiving triple, double-double, rocker section and sandy loam/clay dirt. For a good start, line up three to the left of the starter's box on the backwards falling gate.

Background: Oso Creek was put together ten years ago by a group of motocross enthusiasts before being purchased by the Oso Creek Motocross Club. The track is family oriented and draws of beginners, kids and Vets.Vince Kacir, Michael Peacock and Donny Jackson are the riders to look out for at OSO.

 GOOD TIMES MOTORSPORTS PARK

Directions: Take Interstate I-35 south of San Antonio for 15 miles, exit on 127. Go past first stop light and then take first right to the track.

Practice days/hours/fee: Daily/noon to dark/$7 per rider, spectators free.

Race days/fee/gate: Third weekend, Saturday nights during the summer and Sundays during the winter/$20 amateurs, $25 pro/$6, 65 and older and four and under free.

Layout: The hilly, dark loam, 1.75 mile outdoor track has added supercross obstacles for night races. Riders prefer to line up to the left of starter's box on the 30-rider, backwards failing starting gate.

Background: Good Times has been in operation since '85. Kert Howerton helped lay the track out. It changed ownership and lost momentum until the Brown family aquired it in'92. Cole Brown is the local up-and-comer.

 5.

 290 MOTOCROSS PARK

Directions: Take 290 west out of Houston for 20 miles to FM Rd 2920 exit turn left and go down to the old 290 HWY and turn left. Go one block and turn right on Mathis Rd as soon as the railroad tracks are crossed, turn left and head a quarter-mile to the entrance on the right.

Practice days/hours/fee: Wednesday night 5:00 till 10:00, non-race Sundays noon until dark, and occasional additional practice days/$8, spectcttors free.

Race days/fee/gate: Race every other weekend, fluctuation between Friday and Saturday night or Sunday/$20 first class and $15 for additional classes/$6, six and under and over 60 free.

Layout: With a one-mile day track and 0.6 mile night track, 290 features sandy loam, flat terrain and mild supercross obstacles. Use the center positions on the backward-failing, 34-rider gate.

Background: 290 is best known for its jumps. There are numerous doubles, step-ups, step-downs and tabletops with lots of big berms and two sections of whoops. The owner of the 39 acre parcel of land built the track in 1993 for his son. Jeff Demerit, Caleb Leath and Pedro Gonzales are a few of the riders who congregate at 290 to hone supercross skills.

 HIGHLANDS MOTOCROSS PARK

Directions: From Houston take I-IO for 20 miles east and take Exit 787. Make a left at the four-way stop and go over the freeway five miles north past the cemetery to the track on the left-hand side.

Practice days/hours/fee: Five days a week, call for exact schedule/noon to 30 minutes before dark/$8 per rider, spectators free.

Race days/fee/gate: Every other Sunday (rotate weekends with 290 MX)/$20/$6, under six and over 60 free.

Layout:The sandy loam track is 1.7 miles long, with trees and man-made jumps. Line up in the middle of the 30-rider, backwards-falling gate.

Background: The track owners provided equipment to build the '96 HOuston Astrodome Supercross layout and recreated it on the property. Jeff Dement and Caleb Leath are the local stars.

 7.

 RIO BRAVO MX PARK

Directions: From Houston - Take I-59 20 miles north East East Mt. Houston Rd., turn east and stay on the road until you cross over Greens Bayou. Immediately after passing the white brick wall on the right, turn right into the track.

Practice days/hours/fee: Daily/sunrise to sunset/$6 riders, $1 non-riders, under 6 and over 60 free.

Race days/fee/gate: Second Sunday, third Saturday night/$20, $15 additional class/$6, under 6 and over 60 free (unless riding).

Layout: Built on a hilly, tree covered terrain, the 1.3 mile track goes around a stream, and the soil can be sand, silt, gumbo, red or grey clay. The 40 man, backwards-falling starting gate is on concrete. Line up on the left side for a clockwise racing and in the center other times.

Background: LAnd rich Jake King took a chunk of land unfit for cattle and turned it into a first class track in February of '72. Although it has hosted numerous 125, 250 and 500 Nationals, Rio Bravo is most noted for being the first track where an American beat the Europeans when Jimmy Weinert captured the '73 Trans-Am victory, Wolsink, Bauer and a host of other '70s Euros.

 LAKESIDE MOTOSPORTS PARK

Directions: Lakeside is loccited 30 miles from Austin. Take Hwy. 95 four miles north of Bastrop, turn right on FM1441, go 2.5 miles to the track on south side.

Practice days/hours/fee: Summer and fall- Wednesday and Saturday/5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., October until April -Saturday noon to dark and Sunday 8:00 a.m. to noon/$8 per rider, spectators $1, six and under and 60 and over free.

Race days/fee/gate: Every second Saturday and occasional fourth Saturday (nights during summer/fall and days during winter/spring)/$18 first class, $12 for second and $25 pros/$6, six and under and 60 and over free.

Layout: One mile outdoor with mild hills and supercross obstacles on tacky, red clay mixed with wood chips and sand. Elevation is 300 feet. Riders line up behind a backwards falling, 25-position gate. Use the spots to the right of the starter box.

Background: Lakeside has been operation for 12 years, but it flourished after motocross devotees Matt Stanger and Fred Dupuy purchase the track. As long as the two can break even, they promise to offer the best value for a rider's money. Pedro Gonzales, Jeff Demerit, Jack Beckham, Will Kasson and Harley Murphy have all roosted Lakeside soil.

 CONROE RACE PARK

Directions: Conroe is situated at the northwest corner of the I-45 and Exit 1488 junction. From Houston take I-45 north 25 miles from downtown and take Exit 81 underneath the Exit 1488 overpass. Turn right and then immediately left onto the I-45 feeder road and drive half a mile to the U-turn beneath the I-45 overpass. Look for the track on the left hand side.

Practice days/hours/fee: Monday,Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and non-race Sundays/10:00 a.m. to sunset/$8, spectators $2, six and under and 65 plus free.

Race days/fee/gate: Two Sundays a month (call for exact dates)/$25 amateur, $40 pro/$6 per bike, spectators $2, six and under and 65 plus free.

Layout: High-speed, wide, European, outdoor-style 1.6-mile track lies among hills with soil of black loam, clay and sand. Use the center positions nearest the starter's box on the 28-rider, backward-falling gate.

Background: Peter Hardsteen, a former Dutch GP competitor and current owner of Pro Cycle World, yearned for a real outdoor track in the area and simply built his own. Billy Whitley and Jeff Demerit provided input for the Conroe layout.

 CLEAR CREEK MX PARK

Directions: From Waco go 40 miles on I-35 into Belton and west for 20 miles on Hwy. 190 to the Clear Creek exit in Ft. Hood. Turn right, travel six stoplights and make a left at Turkey Run Rd. Go a quarter-mile and turn right into the track at the sign.

Practice days/hours/fee: Daily/sunrise to sunset/$25 annual family membership.

Layout: Mild hills, 1.3-mile outdoor course with some doubles and step-ups and a gravity cavity. Soil is loamy, sandy, red clay. Line up with in three spots to the left of the backward-falling, 20-rider gate.

Background: The Clear Creek track is located within the Ft. Hood military reservation and has been in operation for 27 years. Besides the two tracks, there are 3000 acres of available riding area which the base opens up for weekends and club days. All monies generated by the club go to a recreation fund for single soldiers on the base.

 11.

 WACO EAGLES MC PARK

Directions: Heading south on 1-35 into Waco, take Loop 340 and head east for six miles on Hwy. 6 to track on right side of the road.

Practice days/hours/fee: Open 24 hours a day/$25 annual family membership/None.

Race days/fee/gate: Second Sunday/$IO members, $13 non-members, mini riders free/member$3, non-member-$5.

Layout: The 1.7-mile track offers flat, hardpack terrain with natural and supercross elements and a backward-falling, 20-rider gate on a concrete pad. Start on the far right side of the gate.

Background: Waco Eagles MC (WEMC) was established in 1934 (yes, they had motorcycles back then). The site has since moved to the current 58-acre location, where it has been since '54. The WEMC focuses on family fun for all ages, often introducing people to motocross. Riders are timed during practice and then grouped by times regardless of bike size or rider age. Jason Edwards, Adam Mennenga, Michael Peacock and Mike Haines are the riders to watch out for.

 EL PASO MOTOCROSS PARK

Directions: From downtown El Paso take I-IO 12 miles to the Zaragosa exit. Head north seven miles, turn east on Montana and follow for five miles. Track is on the right at 15358 Montana.

Practice days/hours/fee: Monday and Wednesday 5:00 p.m. to dusk, Friday 5:00 p.m. to midnight and Saturday 8:00 am to midnight (closed for practice the entire week before a race)/$IO per rider, spectators free.

Race days/fee/gate: Usually the fourth Sunday/$20 amateur, $25 expert/$5, five and under free.

Layout: Outdoor, one-mile arenacross layout on flat terrain. Soil is loose sand. Line up five in from the right on the 16-position, backwards-falling starting gate.

Background: The Deneen family purchased the site to provide a place for their son Jason and other local enthusiasts to ride. They immediately lit the track and removed the cacti in the infield (no kidding). Mark Traversy and Travis Hodges are the two biggest names at El Paso.

 LAKE WHITNEY MOTOCROSS PARK

Directions: From Whitney take Hwy. 22 three miles east to FM 2960. Go three miles until the end. Turn into the gravel road and follow a quarter-mile down to the track on the left-hand side.

Practice days[hours/fee: None.

Race days/fee/gate: Six times a year/$25/$7, over 60 and under six free.

Layout: Whitney's 1.6-mile track has lots of elevation changes, sandy loam and a new I50-foot hill. The best place to start on the backwards-falling, 41 rider gate is on the inside.

Background: The Lake Whitney Cycle Ranch originated in '69 and has seen the best bar-banging action in motocross history. The 487 acre ranch is owned by Bruce Whitehead, who recently sunk over $500,000 into track improvements.

 14.

 WEST TEXAS MX PARK

Directions: From Midland take Business Rt. 20 west towards Odessa the for seven miles to the track on north side of the road, a half-mile before the Midland International Airport.

Practice days/hours/fee: Wednesday 5:00 p.m. to dusk and Sunday 2:00 p.m. to dusk, sunrise to sunset all other days/$50 annual family membership/$5 Wednesday and Sunday for non-members.

Race days/fee/gate- Third weekend of every month/$15 first class, $10 each additional class, $20 pros/$5.

Layout: With sandy soil, a 7/8-mile length and elevation of 2880 feet, West Texas MX Park leans more toward supercross than traditional motocross. For the best start, line up on the far left of the 14 man, backwards-falling, concrete-mounted gate.

Background: West Texas MX Park has been in operation since '73 and is located over an oil field pipeline. This is the site of the '74 West Texas 10,000. Brian McGary and 12-year old Justin Carlton are regulars at West Texas.

 15.

 WILD CREEX MX

Directions: Take I-35W south out of Fort Worth for 20 miles. Exit south on Grandview/ Hwy. 81 exit. FOllow three miles through Grandview to FM67, turn right and follow west to the first right habd turn. Hill Country Road (HRC) 1430 and turn right at the T-intersection to the track one mile down.

Practice days/hours/fee: Daily/daylight to dark (call in advance)/$6, spectators free.

Race days/fee/gate: Every third Sunday/$20/$7, under six and over 65 free.

Layout: Built around Wild Creek, the 1.25 mile layout features mild hills, natural terrain, loamy sand/clay and supercross pbstacles. Course length ia 1.25 miles. It's best to start near the center of the 40-man, backwards-falling gate.

Background: Arenacross designer Billy Lieberman designed the Wild Creek layout. The wooded area offers two monster pecan trees that provide shade for riders, and it's been said that if you can jump all the jumps at Wild Creek, you can jump anything.

 16.

 OAK CREEK MX PARK

Directions: Take 1-20 13 miles east of Abilene to Exit 30 1 /Cherry Ln., go north for 1.3 miles, and there will be a sign to turn right. Go a half-mile (east) then turn back to north a half-

mile and track is located on the right-hand side.

Practice days/hours/fee: Tuesday 5:00 p.m. to dark and Sunday 2:00 P.M. to 6:00 p.m./$5, spectators free.

Race days/fee/gate: Fourth Sunday/$20 for first class, $15 for additional classes, $25 for pros/$7, five to eight $5, and four and under free.

Layout: The hilly terrain, 1.5-mile, mild supercross-style course has a variety of sand, tacky black clay and hardpack soil. Choose the middle positions on the backwards-falling, 20-man gate for the best start.

Background: Oak Creek MX has been in operation for 20 years. When the original owners were forced to move, the track was on the verge of closing until the Robison family took over. The Robisons plan on adding lights soon.

 17.

 SWAN CYCLE PARK

Directions: Tyler is loccited at the midway point between Dallas and Shreveport, LA. Take 1-20 80 miles east of Dallas, three miles south of the I-20 and Hwy. 69 junction, and five miles outside Tyler.

Practice days/hours/fee: Daily/sunrise to sunset/$5 per rider, spectators free.

Race days/fee/gate: Fourth Sunday/$20/$6, under six and over 60 free.

Layout: The 1.4 mile outdoor track has a distinctive red clay/sand mix, and the backwards-falling (on dirt) starting gate holds 38 riders. Racers favor the middle start positions.

Background: The privately owned, 70 acre riding area has been in operation since '69. Parking is in eight acres of pecan orchard, which offers a shaded pit. Owner Trey Clingfrost is a racer himself.

 18.

 BURLESON MX PARK

Directions: From downtown Ft. Worth take 1-35W 14 miles southlo Exit 38/Alsbury, turn left, follow for two miles, and the track is on the right hand side of the road as soon as the creek is crossed.

Practice days/hours/fee: Wednesday evening/call for exact time/$6, spectators free.

Race days/fee/gate: Second and fourth Sundays/$20, $10 for additional classes, $20 Pros/$6, under 10 and over 60 free, or $20 a carload of motocrossers.

Layout: The 0.9-mile outdoor-style track features rolling terrain, mild supercross obstacles and sandy loam soil. Line up in the middle of the 30-man, backwards-falling gate to get the best start.

Background: Chester Czajkowski had 250 acres of cattle farm land, and "a bunch of my riding buddies talked me into building a track". The course is safe and draws a good clientele of Vet and Master riders. There are large oak trees on the property offering shade to the pit area.

 19.

 VILLAGE CREEK MX

Directions: Village Creek is located 12 miles south of Fort Worth. From 1-20 take Anglin Dr. exit south two miles to Shelby Rd., turn left cind follow a half-mile to track on the right side.

Practice days/hours/fee: Tuesdav 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., non-race Sundays noon to 5:00 p.m./$7, spectators free.

Race days/fee/gate: Ever,,, Saturday night March through October and selected Sundays/amateurs $20, pros $30/$7, under six free.

Layout: The wide, fast, 1.8-mile, hardpack, outdoor course features big jumps. The best place to start on the backwards-falling, 40-man gate is three to ten spots to the right of the starter's box.

Background: The Corciray family has been promoting motocross in the area for 14 years (dating back to the Ross Downs in Colleyville). The family recently built the track on family owned land. Village Creek now bills itself as the hottest track in the Dallas/Fort Worth area (and as the premier night track in Texas).

 20.

 MOSIER VALLEY MX

Directions: From Dallas take 1-30 west 20 miles to Arlington, exit right and travel north on Collins/Hwy. 157 five miles to Mosier Valley Rd. Turn left and go west five miles to jimisons Ln., turn left and travel to front gate.

Practice days/hours/fee: Tuesday 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 P.m., Thursday 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5:00 p.m. on offrace weekends/$10, spectators free.

Race days/fee/gate: First and third Sunday/$20 amateurs, $2S expert/S7, 6 and under and 60 and over free.

Layout: The 1.62 mile track has sandy/clay loam, irregular terrain, man-made tabletops, and the promoter has the choice of using two 42-rider, backwards-falling starting gates.

Background: Mosier Valley was started by a group of motorcycle enthusiasts in '68 who owned a scind pit and needed a place to play. Blake Hamilton has been hired by owner Jerry Surber to help restructure the Mosier layout.

 GREENVILLE MX PARK

Directions: Take 1-30 50 miles east of Dallas to Exit 96 in Greenville, turn left under the highway and right on FM499, go a quarter mile, then left on FM118 one mile and right on County Road 4105 to the track 2.5 miles up on the left.

Practice days/hours/fee: Thursday 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. summer, 1:00 p.m. to dark in winter, and non-race Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. summer, noon to 5:00 winter/$7, spectators free.

Race days/fee/gate: Second Sunday/$20/$7, under six and over 60 free.

Layout: The technical, hardpack, one-mile layout has several supercross-style obstacles. Line up to the left of the backwards-falling, 30-rider gate.

Background: Billy Buchanan's track has been in operation for one year, and Billy is looking to work with other promoters to include more events on the schedule. Jeff Demerit, Grayson Goodman, Brad Woolsey, Charlie Bogcird and Dennis Hawthorne all spend time at Greenville.

 T-N-T RACEWAY

Directions: From Lubbock take Hwy. 62/82 east ten miles into Idalou and exit south FM 400 2.5 miles and follow signs to track on east side.

Practice days/hours/fee: June through September onnednesday nights (by appointment during the day the remainder of year)/7 p.m. to I I p.m./$5 per rider, spectators free.

Race days/fee/gate: Second Sundays from March to May and from October through December, and second and fourth Saturday nights from June through August/$15 amateurs, $20 exper-ts/$5, under six and over 60 free.

Layout: The 0.75-mile, supercross style track is laid out on flat terrain with tacky, intermediate dirt. Choose the middle positions on the 20-rider, backwards-falling, concrete-mounted starting gate.

Background: The track has been in and out of operation for over 20 years (it was once a quarter-mile oval track). Neil and Gary Tucker purchased the 33-acre parcel of land 12 years ago and the raceway has since been converted to full motorcycle use.

 DEER CREEK MX PARK

Directions: From Ft. Worth, take 1-20 west to Hwy. 377/Grandbury. Exit south and follow for eight miles, turn right at FM 1187 and track is on left hand side.

Practice days/hours/fee: Saturday and Sunday 8:00 am to dark/$7, spectators free.

Race days/fee/gate: Events are planned for summer of '98 on Friday nights and second and third Sundays.

Layout: The hilly, hardpack (some sand), 1.5-mile course is laid out over natural terrain. The design is mostly supercross until the course heads into the woods for a mile-long, natural-terrain section. The 27-rider, forward-falling gate has riders rushing to line up on the left side.

Background: The land was a wrecking yard before David Green built the course two years ago. Originally, the track was fabricated so son Lonny Williams would have a place to ride. Jason Edwards is the man to beat at Deer Creek.

 Miliam Creek

A new Track has opened between Sanger and Denton Texas. You have probably already got this but I thought I would send it anyway. Milam Creek Motocross (MCM) racing every 2nd and 4th weekends, Practice Every Wednesday and Saturday & Sunday of non Race weekends. Full concessions, Camping Available, Air, Water, Electricity. Challenging Design.
 
Located just off of I35 4 miles north of Denton. Take Milam road exit
and go Past the Loves Country Store. Follow service road and loop under

 Brazos Motocross

A new Track has opened Bryan Texas (as of Aug. '98).
It's costs $5 a rider.
You take 2818 to Leanard Rd. then you take Jones Rd.
and it's down that road a little ways. That's all the information I know
right now.
