MLA Hit the Bowl Theatre
Frank B. Sion.
It’s a friday night and packed into the small venue of the Bowl theatre are 100 men and women of different ages. The lights are up and there is a buzz in the air. Most of them have come to see the lead act, The Franky Band. Yet there are a few suspisious characters dotted around, mainly wearing black leather, dark makeup and brightly colored hair. All of these specticals are followers of the MLA band. Lead by Mariah Arron, and underground bass guitarist Jon Alexander.
The MLA band begin there 40 minute set looking decidedly nervous yet somehow, the encouraging nods and winks from each other, hold this 6 piece together.
Mariah sings one or two classics, tonight adding to the list, Are you Lonesome tonight? An Elvis Presley cover that she pulls off to good measure. Her voice as rich as the King’s himself.
Next they persue the 1980 Nina Simone song, In the dark, where bass player Jon takes the spot light for his magical rifts.
It’s a magical combination, and leaves the audience a little unsettled that they enjoyed the supporting act more than the lead.
