W r i t i n g s       o f       K a t h l e e n       C o l e m a n Light My Fire " You can't be serious. " Sara Collins certainly hoped he wasn't. If the gorgeous stranger sitting across from her meant what he was saying, her female clients would stampede her office for sure. And she had not been in the match making business long enough to afford new furnature. " Babe, I've never been more serious. " It showed in his gaze. It was so intense Sara was afraid it might burn her. She shifted in her seat, heat sweeping up her neck and into her cheeks when he continued to look at her with something akin to interest. Okay, enough with the late night post-concert-special fantasies. She would not deny that she was a fan of Dance On Fire, but to be sitting here, on the brink of melting at the feet of lead singer James Madison, was so not her style. " Well you'll need to fill these out. " she said, handing him a pale yellow folder filled with the files that would hopefully assist her in helping match possibly the sexist man in the country with who she thought would be one lucky woman. He waved away the folder, winked at her, and leaned in closer. So close that she could smell his slightly spicy cologne. So close that she could have reached out and touched him. " I've got a better idea. I want to hold a contest of sorts... " Sara arched a brow. This was new. " What do you mean. " " I can choose the right woman, Ms. Collins. " He smiled at her, leaning back in the caramel leather chair and stretching slightly. " I simply need you to provide a selection. " " What? " Sara's eyes widdened in shock. This was a match making service, not a supermarket. If he thought he was going to treat her clients like they were heads of lettuce he had another thought coming... " I said I don't need help choosing the right woman. I need help finding her. " He said the words without embellishment, his tone so casual that an outsider might have thought they were discussing the weather. This was totally crazy. " Hey. If you wanna ogle, wait 'til we settle this. " Sara blinked and realized that she had lead her mind -- and gaze -- wander. He was so hot in person, his dark hair cut in a style which could be neither classified as long nor short and the muscles of his body clearly defined even beneath the true blue t-shirt and black jeans that seemed like they had been made for him. How could she be blamed for sneaking a few glances up close and personal? She was only human. " You're doing it again. " She looked up at him, her expression startled, and saw a slow smile crossing his face. That and her rising temprature made guessing games unnecessary: she was blushing again. Dammit, why couldn't she seem to behave? " I'm really sorry. I don't know what's with me today. " Forcing her gaze to move away from him she set the files back down on the desk. " If you don't mind my asking, why would you need my services if you feel confident in choosing the right woman? " The pain she saw in his eyes for that moment caught her off guard and she found it hard to breath. The silence stretched between them for a moment and then he broke it, his voice so soft that she leaned in closer to hear him. " I need to find someone who will care about me and not just Dance On Fire. I've heard you're the best. Hear me out and then decide whether you'll take me on. Sound fair? " " Fair. " Sara nodded in submission. After the look she had seen in his eyes, how could she not help him? He looked hurt and loney. Not at all the lady killer that the magazines she had hidden in her closet described. Definately the same man who had made her turn into jelly just looking at a poster. But that wasn't exactly his fault. She decided what made his eyes so beautiful: they held honesty. " Lets hear this idea of yours and I'll see what I can do... " Back | Next |
