Creationists do not dispute that micro-evolution, small changes in a species, is caused by natural selection and may be responsible for the large number of species of one type. However, they contend that this is a misleading name and that evolution is not actually occurring. Increased complexity is not happening, it is only the emphasis of some already present traits over others says Walt Brown, a mechanical engineer and director of the Center for Scientific Creation. Large scale evolution from one organism into another is beyond the ability of natural selection. Everything which exists has been brought about by the acts of a Creator. In fact, as Scott Huse suggests, it can only select from characteristics which already exist. Natural selection is said to be powerless in the overall process of the origins of life and cannot generate anything positive.
