I read in the paper the other day that there was a consideration for having Canada become an official part (a state) of the USA. The paper also said that more than 55% of the Canadians didn't want this to happen. Currently the USA and Canada are considered the same country due to the fact that Canada only goes to fight in wars because the USA tells them to. Canada is a peaceful place, and that is the main reason why they didn't want to join with the USA.
In the USA you will find in vehicles at least one weapon in clear site of anyone outside the vehicle. It is a law to be allowed to have the weapons in the vehicle, it doesn't sound like a good place to live for that fact alone. The USA is one of the strongest countries in the world because almost every other country depends on the USA to have them continue in the world. The USA also has one of the strongest military fronts, which is one of the reasons why most countries do not try to pick a fight with them. The terrorists from September 11th did prove that it is possible to attack the USA, however the terrorists have also proven that the USA military is not a force that you want to have against you too.
Where Canada has been seen as a non-aggressive country, a lot of people feel good about going there for a vacation. Canadians are helpful, which is nice when you need directions or you breakdown. There is a lot of vegetation around in Canada, which keeps the air pollution down some, and gives a friendlier look to the country as a whole. With the USA, especially in places like New York City it is rare to find trees that weren't planted in the city after the city was put in. For example with Halifax (Nova Scotia, Canada) there are trees that were never removed when the city was built originally. This shows that they were more concerned about the environment than the city by doing this (it may not be true, but this is the way I see it).
Canada really doesn't have any defense of their own, they are more dependant on the USA than what any of the politicians are willing to emit. Canada almost had a good military front when they built the "Arrow" Jet. It is hard to believe today that Canada could have an aggressive side, however if the project for the "Arrow" wasn't scrapped (with prototypes all destroyed) Canada could have a good military type front like the other countries.
Canada also has a nice setup for there medical. Having free medical to anyone with the MSI card is a nice way to keep the medical. If the medical of the country ever goes to something other than the government, then Canada may want to consider the USA's proposal to join them. The United States medical is not a free thing, so if Canada loses it too it would be almost worth to convert to the US dollar. However, if Canada does join with the USA that would mean that Canada would no longer become a peaceful area. All of the laws that the USA has will be converted into Canada, unless special circumstances are put into play.
In my personal opinion, Canada becoming a state of the USA would not be that bad. Where every state has their own laws, Canada could setup their own laws so that the gun control that Canada has now stays into affect. The USA gun laws may not be the same as Canada however Canada can use that as a special circumstance for their area. Canada can convert to the US dollar, however they should convert to it but not transfer all funds from Canadian dollar to US dollar, so that the Canadians will all get a benefit. Things like that can be a good thing to happen. One other good thing that could come of Canada becoming part of the USA is the fact that shipping costs (for stuff like the internet sites) will go down and give Canadians the ability to join more sites (the ones that say US residents only). I agree that Canada would be more of a target because of the USA for attacks, however if it is done right, Canada may be able to stay as a peaceful area.
