A standard configuration to the Borg fleet, the cube ship operates on
a decentralized command structure. On an Away Team
mission to the cube, the Enterprise crew was unable to locate any specific
bridge, quarters or engineering sections within it.
The Borg Cube is equipped with extremely powerful energy weapons, including
laser cutting beams, energy draining torpedoes and
tractor beam emitters. Perhaps of greatest tactical advantage to the
Borg vessels is their ability to adapt to any combat situation.
Linked to the Borg Collective, each Borg Cube is capable of near instantaneous
self repair. They are also able to analyze an
opponent's weapons systems and adapt their defenses within seconds.
As such, the Borg Cube is the most formidable technology
known to Federation science.
The Borg Cube is capable of transwarp speeds via Borg subspace transwarp
conduits, allowing them to traverse over vast
distances in a short period of time. This was discovered when the initial
Borg invasion of Earth on Stardate 43989.1 came far
sooner than Starfleet experts had projected.
The Borg have been known to utilize other design configurations for
their space faring vessels. On stardate 46982.1, a more
angular type of Borg vessel traveled to the Alpha Quadrant via a transwarp
conduit. It is unknown if these other Borg vessels are
of original Borg design or are those of other species which they have
assimilated into their collective.
With a crew compliment of 200, Voyager is one of the fastest and most
powerful starships in Starfleet. The overall length of 1,130
feet is approximately half the size of the Galaxy Class U.S.S. Enterprise
NCC-1701-D. Of great advantage, the starship Voyager
also has the most current warp core technology, which allows the ship
to hold it's maximum emergency speed of warp 9.9 near
indefinitely.
Superbly equipped for the exploration and research mission profile,
Voyager has an equally impressive array of defensive and
offensive weaponry, making it tactically very capable in combat scenarios.
While on a search and rescue mission on stardate 48307.5, U.S.S. Voyager
was pulled over 70,000 light-years into the Delta
Quadrant from the vicinity of the Badlands near space station Deep
Space Nine. It was later discovered by the Voyager crew that
their trip had been no accident, but rather the plot of an alien lifeform
calling itself “Caretaker.” Starfleet command reported the
Voyager missing in action, and presumed she was lost along with all
hands.
The Defiant would find new life when Commander Sisko requested the starship
and returned with it to space station Deep Space
Nine, in order to meet the Dominion and Jem'Hadar threats of the Gamma
Quadrant. This threat had been deemed so serious by all governments of
the Alpha Quadrant that the Romulan Empire disregarded the Treaty of Algeron
and provided a cloaking device
including its own Romulan crew to the Defiant, making it the only cloak
capable Federation starship.
The Starship Defiant carries at least two small scale shuttlecraft and
lacks the more "comfortable" features of other Federation
Starships. There are no non-essential personnel or families aboard
the Defiant. An armed guard is assigned outside its Deep Space
Nine airlock at all times. Voice print and several other forms of identification
are required for access to the Defiant. Command
authorization codes are required to access any of the Defiant's tactical
consoles.
Tactically more than capable, the Defiant is one of the first Federation
Starships to be equipped with Quantum torpedo launchers
along with the standard Photon Torpedo systems. A warp plasma conduit
which is routed through the Defiant's primary phaser
coupling almost doubles normal phaser power and boosts the warp drive
efficiency 30%.
Equipped with the latest in Federation technology, the Enterprise E
is designed for the standard exploration and scientific mission
profiles of her earlier namesakes, but reflects the current Starfleet
design philosophy for more combat ready starships. This change
in mission profile and starship design requirements came about in response
to the first Borg invasion circa Stardate 44001.4.
The Enterprise E has a variety of both offensive and defensive weaponry,
including; upgraded phaser banks, the latest in high
output shield emitters as well as both photon and quantum torpedo launchers.
As such, the ship is not required to participate in the
diplomatic functions of her immediate predecessor.
This newest Enterprise and her crew were put to the ultimate test when
the Borg began a second invasion of the Federation on
Stardate 50984.3, whereby her crew was responsible for thwarting a
Borg plot to travel to the past to prevent First Contact with
the Vulcans and the founding of the United Federation of Planets.
Possessing 42 decks, the Enterprise D was twice the length of and had
eight times the interior space of the original Constitution
class ship of over a century earlier. Her combined crew and passenger
compliment was approximately 1,012.
The Galaxy Class Starship bore an impressive array of defensive systems
including; 10 integrated phaser banks, 5 photon torpedo
launchers and high capacity shield grids. There are some 4,000 power
systems in all aboard starship.
During the Borg invasion of 2366, decks 23 through 25 were severly damaged
by the Borg during the battle at Earth, which
required a refit at Earth Station McKinley that lasted 6 weeks. During
that refit and repair, the Enterprise received upgrades to her
phaser systems as well as damage repair and a revised dilithium chamber
articulation frame.
The Enterprise D was destroyed in 2371 after an engagement with renegade
Klingons who had discovered a way to penetrate the
Enterprise's sheilds. The warp core had been severly damaged, and although
the saucer section had separated from the main
stardrive of the ship before the core reached critical mass, the force
of the resulting explosion damaged the saucer and forced it to
crash on the planet Veridian III. As such, the starship was beyond
any hope of repair and was dismantled and scrapped.
Under the command of the recently demoted Captain James T. Kirk, the
Enterprise A was launched in 2286 after Kirk and his
crew saved Earth from the effects of an alien probe.
Despite several major problems with onbaord systems which were discovered
during inital shakedown, the ship was called into
service to deal with a hostage situation on the planet Nimbus III in
2287.
Perhaps the most notable mission the Enterprise A achieved was when
the ship was assigned to escort Klingon chancellor Gorkon
to a peace conference on Earth after the destruction of the Klingon
moon Praxis. During this mission, Chancellor Gorkon was
assassinated and the peace talks were abruptly halted. But the Enterprise
crew once again proved essential, uncovering a plot to
sabotage the Klingon/Federation peace process. The peace talks were
eventually rescheduled at a peace summit on the planet
Khitomer. This ship was decommissioned after the peace summit had been
completed.
Previously under the command of Captain Robert April and then Captain Christopher Pike, the Enterprise gained a legendary status when she came under the command of Captain James T. Kirk during 2264 to 2269.
The Constitution class starship is still considered to be the most durable
starship design to this day, and was superbly equipped for
her mission profile. With 14 science labs available for research and
exploration, the Enterprise was also well equipped for tactical
engagements, outfitted with the latest Starfleet offensive and defensive
weaponry of the time.
This starship underwent several refits during her service, most notably
in 2270 which involved an upgrade and overhaul of all
primary systems. A complete replacement of the bridge module and warp
drive nacelles were performed during this refit.
This class of Enterprise was destroyed in 2285 by Captain James Kirk
to prevent the ship from being captured by Klingons while
on a rescue mission in the Mutara Sector.
