Hotaru is a kind, gentle, caring person. However, she is very isolated and spends most of her time at home inside her father's mansion. In the Third series, she only has one friend -- Chibiusa. It is due to an accident when she was 8 years old and she was heavily injured by the fire. Then, her father used his brain and technology to recreat her as a semi-robot human. Therefore she always wear all black or black tights and turtlenecks no matter how hot the day is. She "became" human when she turned into Sailor Saturn in the Third series.
As Sailor Saturn, her job is to distroy every living-things (includes the bad evil things and herself) to let the good things including themselves to start a new live. Therefore every time the world is in crisis and three talisman that, are kept at Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, are together, she'll wake up and use her glaive of Silence to destroy the world.
