There are5 series for Sailormoon. Each series has different story and different new characters.
1) Sailormoon
This is the first series and the story background is Tokyo. A girl, Usagi Tuskino,who is 14 years old, is woken up as Sailormoon by Luna. She is told that the Kingdom of Moon needs her help because she is one of the knight in the legend. She is also told that she has to find out where are her companies and her princess and the most important thing -- the sliver crystal.
She met a mystery man, who call himself Tuxedo Mask, and she fell in love with him. In vol. 1, she found 3 companies -- Ami Mizuno as Sailormercury, Rei Hino as Sailormars and Makoto Kino as Sailorjupiter. Then she was told by Luna that she is the leader of the group. Now their aim is finding out where is their princess as the sliver crystal belongs to Princess Sinlady. Then they found Sailorvenus who called herself Princess Serenity and a white cat called Artemis. They all thought she was the princess.
However, one day, as they were fighting their enermy, Sailormoon was deep in trouble, she was luckily saved by Tuxedo Mask, but he was injured badly. Sailormoon kept crying out his name but he dead. She cried and her tear turned out as the silver crysal and she found herself dressed like princess. Everything was clear now, Usagi was the Princess Serenity not Minako Aino who was Sailorvenus. But she lost her lover who she loves since her previous existence. They love each other since then. She still thought she had a chance to meet him again because his body was brought away by the enemy. She knew they won't kill him.
As she thought, he was still alive but stood in front of her as her enermy. Finally, 5 sailors distroyed the Kingdom of Darkness, their enermy and bring Tuxedo Mask back.
2) Sailormoon R
R for repeat, means again. This series begins in peaceful Tokyo. Usagi and Mamoru Chibi (Tuxedo Mask) kissed in a park. Suddenly, a kid droped from the high sky and landed on Usagi (luckily, this is manga, otherwise Usagi would be dead). She called herself as 'Usagi' as well and forced Usagi to give the sliver crystal to her with a gun! Later on, Mamoru found that the gun was just a toy, but Usagi have already fainted. The kid ran away.
Later on, Sailor Mercury, Mars and Jupiter were captured in the first 3 fight against their new enermy whom they don't know who they were and where they came from. Usagi thought Chibiusa was their enermy emotionally. But Venus and Mamoru sured she wasn't and Usagi foung out later. Then Chibiusa told them she came from the 30th centuryin the future. She led them to the future, before that they met Sailor Pluto. Then they found out Chibiusa would be the daught of Usagi and Mamoru in the future. They also found out everybody was sleeping as they were attacked by the Kingdom of Black Moon except Chibiusa. The future was in trouble because Sinlady the new Queen was deep in sleep. Then they met a cat called Diana that was the daught of Luna and Artemis.
After several fights Sailormoon brought Mars, Mercury and Jupiter back. But they soon found out that they lost Chibiusa and Tuxedo Mask. Then Chibiusa turned out as their enermy and was called Black Lady and Tuxedo Mask also became their enermy. In the 'final' fight, Mamoru was back, but they couldn't stand a chance in front of the evil black crystal because Sailormoon didn't wasnt to fight with Chibiusa. Then Black Lady stole two sliver crystals -- one from Sailormoon and the other from her mother. They were in big trouble, as two sliver crystal can't be together. In this moment Sailor Pluto used her power to stop the flow of time and Sailormoon got two crystal back and gave one to Sailor Venus. After that Pluto was dead because she violated her taboo which she must not stop the time. Black Lady cried as Pluto was her only friend (she thought). Her tear turned into a new silver crystal and she made up as Sailor Chibimoon. Then only Waisman -- the biggest enermy left. Eventually they destroy Waisman and his Kingdom of Black Moon.
