GODS PRINCIPLES FOR
A BLESSED AND PROSPEROUS LIFE FOR EMPLOYERS AND EMPLOYEES
( New Living Translation)
Ex 23:25 "You must serve only the LORD your God. If you do, I will bless you with food and water, and I will keep you healthy Lev 25:14,16,17 When you make an agreement with a neighbor to buy or sell property, you must never take advantage of each other. 15When you buy land from your neighbor, the price of the land should be based on the number of years since the last jubilee. The seller will charge you only for the crop years left until the next Year of Jubilee. 16The more the years, the higher the price; the fewer the years, the lower the price. After all, the person selling the land is actually selling you a certain number of harvests. 17Show your fear of God by not taking advantage of each other. I, the LORD, am your God Deut 8:18 18Always remember that it is the LORD your God who gives you power to become rich, and he does it to fulfill the covenant he made with your ancestors Deut 15: 1-11 1"At the end of every seventh year you must cancel your debts. 2This is how it must be done. Creditors must cancel the loans they have made to their fellow Israelites. They must not demand payment from their neighbors or relatives, for the LORD's time of release has arrived. 3This release from debt, however, applies only to your fellow Israelites--not to the foreigners living among you. 4There should be no poor among you, for the LORD your God will greatly bless you in the land he is giving you as a special possession. 5You will receive this blessing if you carefully obey the commands of the LORD your God that I am giving you today. 6The LORD your God will bless you as he has promised. You will lend money to many nations but will never need to borrow! You will rule many nations, but they will not rule over you! 7"But if there are any poor people in your towns when you arrive in the land the LORD your God is giving you, do not be hard-hearted or tightfisted toward them. 8Instead, be generous and lend them whatever they need. 9Do not be mean-spirited and refuse someone a loan because the year of release is close at hand. If you refuse to make the loan and the needy person cries out to the LORD, you will be considered guilty of sin. 10Give freely without begrudging it, and the LORD your God will bless you in everything you do. 11There will always be some among you who are poor. That is why I am commanding you to share your resources freely with the poor and with other Israelites in need. Deut 25:13-16 "You must use accurate scales when you weigh out merchandise, 14and you must use full and honest measures. 15Yes, use honest weights and measures, so that you will enjoy a long life in the land the LORD your God is giving you. 16Those who cheat with dishonest weights and measures are detestable to the LORD your God. Deut 30:16 16I have commanded you today to love the LORD your God and to keep his commands, laws, and regulations by walking in his ways. If you do this, you will live and become a great nation, and the LORD your God will bless you and the land you are about to enter and occupy. Joshua 1:8 8Study this Book of the Law continually. Meditate on it day and night so you may be sure to obey all that is written in it. Only then will you succeed. 1 Sam 17:38,39 38Then Saul gave David his own armor--a bronze helmet and a coat of mail. 39David put it on, strapped the sword over it, and took a step or two to see what it was like, for he had never worn such things before. "I can't go in these," he protested. "I'm not used to them." So he took them off again. David was not used to the armor of Saul. Don’t compare yourself with others. What works for them, might not work for you. God has His own specific instructions for you! 1 Kings 18 Obadiah was the right man in the right place at the right time. 2 Chron 20:35-37 35But near the end of his life, King Jehoshaphat of Judah made an alliance with King Ahaziah of Israel, who was a very wicked man.Together they built a fleet of trading ships at the port of Ezion-geber. 37Then Eliezer son of Dodavahu from Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat. He said, "Because you have allied yourself with King Ahaziah, the LORD will destroy your work." So the ships met with disaster and never put out to sea. An alliance in business, with a wicked person, can not be blessed by God. God is your Partner. 2 Chron 26:5 Uzziah sought God during the days of Zechariah, who instructed him in the fear of God. And as long as the king sought the LORD, God gave him success 2 Chron 31:20,21 In this way, King Hezekiah handled the distribution throughout all Judah, doing what was pleasing and good in the sight of the LORD his God. 21In all that he did in the service of the Temple of God and in his efforts to follow the law and the commands, Hezekiah sought his God wholeheartedly. As a result, he was very successful Psalm 75:6,7 For no one on earth--from east or west, or even from the wilderness can raise another person up. It is God alone who judges; he decides who will rise and who will fall Promotion comes from the Lord! He will put someone down, to make place for His own children. Psalm 112 Praise the LORD! Happy are those who fear the LORD. Yes, happy are those who delight in doing what he commands. Their children will be successful everywhere; an entire generation of godly people will be blessed. They themselves will be wealthy, and their good deeds will never be forgotten. When darkness overtakes the godly, light will come bursting in. They are generous, compassionate, and righteous. All goes well for those who are generous, who lend freely and conduct their business fairly. Such people will not be overcome by evil circumstances. Those who are righteous will be long remembered. They do not fear bad news; they confidently trust the LORD to care for them. They are confident and fearless and can face their foes triumphantly. They give generously to those in need. Their good deeds will never be forgotten. They will have influence and honor. The wicked will be infuriated when they see this. They will grind their teeth in anger; they will slink away, their hopes thwarted. Psalm 127:1,2 Unless the LORD builds a house, the work of the builders is useless. Unless the LORD protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good. It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to his loved ones. Godly Wisdom in the Book of Proverbs. Prov 3:1-6 My child, never forget the things I have taught you. Store my commands in your heart, for they will give you a long and satisfying life. Never let loyalty and kindness get away from you! Wear them like a necklace; write them deep within your heart. Then you will find favor with both God and people, and you will gain a good reputation. Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.Seek his will in all you do, and he will direct your paths. Prov 3:9,10 Honor the LORD with your wealth and with the best part of everything your land produces. 10Then he will fill your barns with grain, and your vats will overflow with the finest wine. Prov 6:1-5 My child, if you co-sign a loan for a friend or guarantee the debt of someone you hardly know--if you have trapped yourself by your agreement and are caught by what you said-- quick, get out of it if you possibly can! You have placed yourself at your friend's mercy. Now swallow your pride; go and beg to have your name erased. Don't put it off. Do it now! Don't rest until you do. Save yourself like a deer escaping from a hunter, like a bird fleeing from a net. Prov 6:10,11 A little extra sleep, a little more slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest-- and poverty will pounce on you like a bandit; scarcity will attack you like an armed robber. Prov 10:2-6 Ill-gotten gain has no lasting value, but right living can save your life. The LORD will not let the godly starve to death, but he refuses to satisfy the craving of the wicked. Lazy people are soon poor; hard workers get rich. A wise youth works hard all summer; a youth who sleeps away the hour of opportunity brings shame. The godly are showered with blessings; evil people cover up their harmful intentions Prov 11:1,15 The LORD hates cheating, but he delights in honesty. 15Guaranteeing a loan for a stranger is dangerous; it is better to refuse than to suffer later. Prov 12:2,11,24 The LORD approves of those who are good, but he condemns those who plan wickedness Hard work means prosperity; only fools idle away their time Work hard and become a leader; be lazy and become a slave Prov 13:11 Wealth from get-rich-quick schemes quickly disappears; wealth from hard work grows Prov 14:11,23 The house of the wicked will perish, but the tent of the godly will flourish. Work brings profit, but mere talk leads to poverty Prov 15:27 Dishonest money brings grief to the whole family, but those who hate bribes will live . Prov 18:9 A lazy person is as bad as someone who destroys things. Prov 19:2,3,17 Zeal without knowledge is not good; a person who moves too quickly may go the wrong way. 3People ruin their lives by their own foolishness and then are angry at the LORD. If you help the poor, you are lending to the LORD--and he will repay you! Prov 20:10,13,17,22,23 The LORD despises double standards of every kind. 13If you love sleep, you will end in poverty. Keep your eyes open, and there will be plenty to eat! Stolen bread tastes sweet, but it turns to gravel in the mouth. 22Don't say, "I will get even for this wrong." Wait for the LORD to handle the matter. 23The LORD despises double standards; he is not pleased by dishonest scales. Good planning and hard work lead to prosperity, but hasty shortcuts lead to poverty. Prov 21: 5,6,21 Wealth created by lying is a vanishing mist and a deadly trap. 21Whoever pursues godliness and unfailing love will find life, godliness, and honor. Prov 22:4,9,16,22,23,26,27,29 True humility and fear of the LORD lead to riches, honor, and long life. 9Blessed are those who are generous, because they feed the poor. 16A person who gets ahead by oppressing the poor or by showering gifts on the rich will end in poverty. Do not rob the poor because they are poor or exploit the needy in court. 23For the LORD is their defender. He will injure anyone who injures them. 26Do not co-sign another person's note or put up a guarantee for someone else's loan. 27If you can't pay it, even your bed will be snatched from under you. 29Do you see any truly competent workers? They will serve kings rather than ordinary people. Prov 23:4,5 4Don't weary yourself trying to get rich. Why waste your time? 5For riches can disappear as though they had the wings of a bird Prov 28:6,19,22,25,27 A person who makes money by charging interest will lose it. It will end up in the hands of someone who is kind to the poor. Hard workers have plenty of food; playing around brings poverty. A greedy person tries to get rich quick, but it only leads to poverty. Greed causes fighting; trusting the LORD leads to prosperity. Whoever gives to the poor will lack nothing. But a curse will come upon those who close their eyes to poverty. Pray this portion of scripture over your budget. Prov 30:7-9 O God, I beg two favors from you before I die. 8First, help me never to tell a lie. Second, give me neither poverty nor riches! Give me just enough to satisfy my needs. 9For if I grow rich, I may deny you and say, "Who is the LORD?" And if I am too poor, I may steal and thus insult God's holy name. Ecl 2:26 God gives wisdom, knowledge, and joy to those who please him. But if a sinner becomes wealthy, God takes the wealth away and gives it to those who please him. Ecl 5:3-6 Just as being too busy gives you nightmares, being a fool makes you a blabbermouth. 4So when you make a promise to God, don't delay in following through, for God takes no pleasure in fools. Keep all the promises you make to him. 5It is better to say nothing than to promise something that you don't follow through on. 6In such cases, your mouth is making you sin. And don't defend yourself by telling the Temple messenger that the promise you made was a mistake. That would make God angry, and he might wipe out everything you have achieved. Ecl 5:10-12,18,19 Those who love money will never have enough. How absurd to think that wealth brings true happiness! 11The more you have, the more people come to help you spend it. So what is the advantage of wealth--except perhaps to watch it run through your fingers! 12People who work hard sleep well, whether they eat little or much. But the rich are always worrying and seldom get a good night’s sleep. 18Even so, I have noticed one thing, at least, that is good. It is good for people to eat well, drink a good glass of wine, and enjoy their work--whatever they do under the sun--for however long God lets them live. 19And it is a good thing to receive wealth from God and the good health to enjoy it. To enjoy your work and accept your lot in life--that is indeed a gift from God. Ecl 8:3-5 Don't try to avoid doing your duty, and don't take a stand with those who plot evil. For the king will punish those who disobey him. 4The king's command is backed by great power. No one can resist or question it. 5Those who obey him will not be punished. Those who are wise will find a time and a way to do what is right. Don’t be in a hurry to leave the king’s presence. Jesus is our King! Jer 8:6-13 The stork knows the time of her migration, as do the turtledove, the swallow, and the crane.[Fehler! Textmarke nicht definiert.] They all return at the proper time each year. But not my people! They do not know what the LORD requires of them. 8" `How can you say, "We are wise because we have the law of the LORD," when your teachers have twisted it so badly? 9These wise teachers will be shamed by exile for their sin, for they have rejected the word of the LORD. Are they so wise after all? 10I will give their wives and their farms to others. From the least to the greatest, they trick others to get what does not belong to them. Yes, even my prophets and priests are like that. 11They offer superficial treatments for my people's mortal wound. They give assurances of peace when all is war. 12Are they ashamed when they do these disgusting things? No, not at all--they don't even blush! Therefore, they will lie among the slaughtered. They will be humbled when they are punished, says the LORD. 13I will take away their rich harvests of figs and grapes. Their fruit trees will all die. All the good things I prepared for them will soon be gone. I, the LORD, have spoken!' Jer 29:7 And work for the peace and prosperity of Babylon. Pray to the LORD for that city where you are held captive, for if Babylon has peace, so will you." Pray for your employer and the firm where you work. Dan 6:4,5 Daniel soon proved himself more capable than all the other administrators and princes. Because of his great ability, the king made plans to place him over the entire empire. 4Then the other administrators and princes began searching for some fault in the way Daniel was handling his affairs, but they couldn't find anything to criticize. He was faithful and honest and always responsible. Luke 6: 34-38 And if you lend money only to those who can repay you, what good is that? Even sinners will lend to their own kind for a full return. 35"Love your enemies! Do good to them! Lend to them! And don't be concerned that they might not repay. Then your reward from heaven will be very great, and you will truly be acting as children of the Most High, for he is kind to the unthankful and to those who are wicked. 36You must be compassionate, just as your Father is compassionate. 37"Stop judging others, and you will not be judged. Stop criticizing others, or it will all come back on you. If you forgive others, you will be forgiven. 38If you give, you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full measure, pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, and running over. Whatever measure you use in giving--large or small--it will be used to measure what is given back to you." And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again. But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil. Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful. Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven: Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again. Rom 13:6-8 Pay your taxes, too, for these same reasons. For government workers need to be paid so they can keep on doing the work God intended them to do. 7Give to everyone what you owe them: Pay your taxes and import duties, and give respect and honor to all to whom it is due. 8Pay all your debts, except the debt of love for others. You can never finish paying that! If you love your neighbor, you will fulfill all the requirements of God's law 2 Cor 8:12-14 If you are really eager to give, it isn't important how much you are able to give. God wants you to give what you have, not what you don't have. 13Of course, I don't mean you should give so much that you suffer from having too little. I only mean that there should be some equality. 14Right now you have plenty and can help them. Then at some other time they can share with you when you need it. In this way, everyone's needs will be met. 2 Cor 9:6-13 6Remember this--a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop. 7You must each make up your own mind as to how much you should give. Don't give reluctantly or in response to pressure. For God loves the person who gives cheerfully. 8And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others. 9As the Scriptures say, 10For God is the one who gives seed to the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way, he will give you many opportunities to do good, and he will produce a great harvest of generosity] in you.11Yes, you will be enriched so that you can give even more generously. And when we take your gifts to those who need them, they will break out in thanksgiving to God. 12So two good things will happen--the needs of the Christians in Jerusalem will be met, and they will joyfully express their thanksgiving to God. 13You will be glorifying God through your generous gifts. For your generosity to them will prove that you are obedient to the Good News of Christ. Eph 4:28 If you are a thief, stop stealing. Begin using your hands for honest work, and then give generously to others in need. Eph 5:3-5 3Let there be no sexual immorality, impurity, or greed among you. Such sins have no place among God's people. 4Obscene stories, foolish talk, and coarse jokes--these are not for you. Instead, let there be thankfulness to God. 5You can be sure that no immoral, impure, or greedy person will inherit the Kingdom of Christ and of God. For a greedy person is really an idolater who worships the things of this world Phil 4:10,15,16,18,19 10How grateful I am, and how I praise the Lord that you are concerned about me again. I know you have always been concerned for me, but for a while you didn't have the chance to help me. As you know, you Philippians were the only ones who gave me financial help when I brought you the Good News and then traveled on from Macedonia. No other church did this. 16Even when I was in Thessalonica you sent help more than once. 18At the moment I have all I need--more than I need! I am generously supplied with the gifts you sent me with Epaphroditus. They are a sweet-smelling sacrifice that is acceptable to God and pleases him. 19And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus They helped Paul, God’s servant and because of that God blessed them richly. Col 3:5,6 So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual sin, impurity, lust, and shameful desires. Don't be greedy for the good things of this life, for that is idolatry. 6God's terrible anger will come upon those who do such things. Col 3:22,23 You slaves (christians in secular employment) must obey your earthly masters (your employers) in everything you do. Try to please them all the time, not just when they are watching you. Obey them willingly because of your reverent fear of the Lord. 23Work hard and cheerfully at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people God watches your attitude at work. 1 Thess 4:11,12 This should be your ambition: to live a quiet life, minding your own business and working with your hands, just as we commanded you before. 12As a result, people who are not Christians will respect the way you live, and you will not need to depend on others to meet your financial needs. 2 Thess 3: 6-12 And now, dear brothers and sisters, we give you this command with the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ: Stay away from any Christian[Fehler! Textmarke nicht definiert.] who lives in idleness and doesn't follow the tradition of hard work we gave you. 7For you know that you ought to follow our example. We were never lazy when we were with you. 8We never accepted food from anyone without paying for it. We worked hard day and night so that we would not be a burden to any of you. 9It wasn't that we didn't have the right to ask you to feed us, but we wanted to give you an example to follow. 10Even while we were with you, we gave you this rule: "Whoever does not work should not eat." 11Yet we hear that some of you are living idle lives, refusing to work and wasting time meddling in other people's business. 12In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we appeal to such people--no, we command them: Settle down and get to work. Earn your own living. 2 Thess 3:6-12 (KJV) And now, dear brothers and sisters, we give you this command with the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ: Stay away from any Christian[Fehler! 1 Tim 5:16 16If a Christian woman has relatives who are widows, she must take care of them and not put the responsibility on the church. Then the church can care for widows who are truly alone. 1 Tim 5:17,18 17Elders who do their work well should be paid well especially those who work hard at both preaching and teaching. 18For the Scripture says, "Do not keep an ox from eating as it treads out the grain." And in another place, "Those who work deserve their pay! 1 Tim 6:1-3 Christians who are slaves(in secular employment) should give their masters (their employer) full respect so that the name of God and his teaching will not be shamed. 2If your master (employer) is a Christian, that is no excuse for being disrespectful. You should work all the harder because you are helping another believer by your efforts.Teach these truths, Timothy, and encourage everyone to obey them. 3Some false teachers may deny these things, but these are the sound, wholesome teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ, and they are the foundation for a godly life. 1 Tim 6:4-10 Anyone who teaches anything different is both conceited and ignorant. Such a person has an unhealthy desire to quibble over the meaning of words. This stirs up arguments ending in jealousy, fighting, slander, and evil suspicions. 5These people always cause trouble. Their minds are corrupt, and they don't tell the truth. To them religion is just a way to get rich. 6Yet true religion with contentment is great wealth. 7After all, we didn't bring anything with us when we came into the world, and we certainly cannot carry anything with us when we die. 8So if we have enough food and clothing, let us be content. 9But people who long to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction. 10For the love of money is at the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows. 1 Tim 6:17,18 Tell those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which will soon be gone. But their trust should be in the living God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment. 18Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and should give generously to those in need, always being ready to share with others whatever God has given them. Titus 2:9,10 Slaves (Christians working in secular employment) must obey their masters (employers) and do their best to please them. They must not talk back 10or steal, but they must show themselves to be entirely trustworthy and good. (like Daniel and Joseph) Then they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive in every way. Heb 13:5 5Stay away from the love of money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, "I will never fail you. I will never forsake you." James 4:13-16 13Look here, you people who say, "Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit." 14How do you know what will happen tomorrow? For your life is like the morning fog--it's here a little while, then it's gone. 15What you ought to say is, "If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that James 5:12 12But most of all, my brothers and sisters, never take an oath, by heaven or earth or anything else. Just say a simple yes or no, so that you will not sin and be condemned for it. Copyright Froukje, Oss, September 2002. |
