So did the day finally come. The day all hockey-fans have feared. This day, 18th of April 1999, will go down in history as the day the one and only, number 99, Wayne Gretzky played his last NHL game ever. With his 61 NHL records I think it´s safe to say that he has been, is and will forever be the best hockeyplayer in the world! It was with tears in his eyes that he took his last goodbye of the fans in Madison Square Garden, surrounded by the people which have meant the most for him over the years such as Mario Lemieux, Mark Messier, Ulf Samuelsson, Brian Leetch, and so on. And of course his loving wife Janet and his two sons. This last game, which NY Rangers lost to Pittsburgh with 2 - 1 in overtime, was also the Rangers last game for this season since they didn´t reach the playoffs. Well, 20 years in the NHL has come to an end and Mr Gretzky took the step into legend! We will miss you! 99 Forever!

(more pics of the great one will be added)

Another legend in the NHL is this man, Gordie Howe. This man is one of Wayne Gretzkys idols and probably every NHL players idol too. Gordie Howe played his first NHL game in November 1946 against Chicago. But it wasn´t until the next year that people really realized how great Gordie Howe really was and was going to be. Together with Ted Lindsay and Sid Abel they formed "the Production Line" which became the hottest line in the league. The 1950´s became a great decade for the Redwings and Gordie Howe, winning the Stanley Cup 1950,-52, -54,-55. Gordie Howe played for the Redwings until 1971 when he retired (not forever as it later turned out). Gordie Howe was the greatest player at that time and has of course a solid place in the NHL Hall of Fame! Gordie Howe - the legend lives on!

Gordie Howe´s wingman Ted Lindsay!

Terry Sawchuck was the Redwings goalkeeper who played together with Gordie Howe and Ted Lindsay. A great keeper!

Steve Chiasson from the NHL-team Carolina Hurricanes lost his life in a car-accident on May 3rd this year (1999). It was the morning after Carolina had lost in the NHL playoffs against Boston. Police stated that Steve Chiasson was driving under the influence of alcohol and was driving in high speed. But this is not the way we want to remember this great hockey-player. Steve Chiasson died at the age of 32. R.I.P!
