He has won the battle of power. His human brother is stronger then he thought. The glow has gone but still shines in Kaine’s eyes. In those exciting minutes Kaine has changed from a young man into a Dragonmage. Still he has to learn a lot but he is on the right way. The dragon on his chest shines with a bright light as Kaine lifts up the Staff into the air and screams in pleasure. Zodiac joins him and roars out loud. Pure fireballs are sent into the air when the dragon pays tribute to the owner of the dragonmagic. Both creatures show their powers and authority. Finally Kaine relaxes and smiles. His fingers run through his hair as he sighs with joy. The soft sand under his boots grinds when he walks with big steps to keep up with Zodiac. For the first time he looks around him. Dead grey trees, sand, black rocks, remains of battles rest here, body’s, armor and all kinds of things that prove that once humans lived here. Kaine is shocked when he sees the large number of corpses. The remains of horses as they show the battle that passed months ago. As if he had been dreaming Kaine suddenly smells all kinds of scents and hears all kinds of sounds. Roaring, screaming, hissing, howling and the sound of people dying. He smells the blood, the corpses and he retches. He grabs Zodiac by his manes to keep on his feet when he starts to feel sick.

Zodiac stops and looks at his pale faced friend. His wing gives Kaine support. " So you finally came to your senses eh? This is your world now or at least what is left of it. I warned you this might happen and this is nothing compared to what we shall see when we continue. Not all battles have been won by the dark forces. Still there is a resistance that keeps on fighting. I don’t understand you humans, why would you continue this useless fight if you have nothing to fight for? " Zodiac shakes his head as he stretches his neck. He yawns and looks to the blue sky. " Look at the sky Kaine. That’s the only place that will never loose it’s beauty." Longing the big dragon looks to his home above them. He hates walking and flying goes so much faster. Maybe he can carry Kaine. For one moment Zodiac thinks about that idea. His body shivers just by the thought. A human riding a dragon? That would be so embarrassing and humiliating. Then again Kaine isn’t a real human. Part of him is dragon as well. Again Zodiac looks at the human next to him. His snout gently pushes against Kaine’s shoulder. The man smiles and caresses the large dragon head. His horned skin feels warm. His big eyes stare in those of the human. He lifts his head up into the air and makes a decision. " Climb on my back Kaine. We shall fly to the Midlands." He stretches one wing to enable Kaine to climb up. " Are you sure Zod? We can walk as well." Kaine looks at the red dragon in surprise. He knows what Zodiac must feel to let a human ride on his back. Zodiac nods at pushes Kaine with his head to move along. Kaine grabs the long golden manes and climbs up. Zodiac helps him by lifting one wing. Finally Kaine sits on Zodiac’s back. The dragon feels warm and comfortable. Zodiac shivers when he feels the weight on his back and stands very still to adjust to it. He feels the legs that clasp around him. He turns his head worried to see if Kaine is ready. Kaine smiles and touches the soft manes. He strokes the snout of the friendly dragon to relax him. His staff is tied up on his back. His fingers run through the golden manes searching for grip. He winds some manes around his hands and sighs. " Ready when you are Zod. Just take it slow, because i can’t fly. I have to trust on you not to let me fall off." He smiles nervously and holds on.

Zodiac takes a deep breath and spreads his wings. He roars to Kaine to hold on and with a few big flaps they are off into the air. Carefully Zodiac flies higher and higher. Kaine screams with pleasure when he feels the wind on his face. He feels the strong muscles of the dragon underneath him. He hears the wings as they move the air to gain speed. For one moment he looks down to the earth. His breath hangs in his throat when he sees how high they are. What seemed as a large battlefield now seems so small and meaningless. Zodiac turns his head and looks at the human on his back. He nods when he sees Kaine is alright and is enjoying himself.
