Code of
Knighthood
(sometimes
referred to as "The Old Code")
The
Tannisbury Path to Knighthood was founded upon the basic principles of
the Paladin Knight, who conducted him or herself in a manner of keeping
his integrity above reproach. The following virtues are a basis for a knight
of Tannisbury, and is intended as a guideline for conduct and discipline
for all members who choose this path.
Valor
A
knight demonstrates unyielding courage in the face of adversity. Nothing
stands in his or her way of completing a quest or mission. No danger is
too great, no task too small that will prevent a knight from his or her
goal. Each victory he or she experiences is done so for the honor and glory
of
Tannisbury,
rather than for personal gain or recognition. A knight will attack an enemy
without hesitation, and will continue to fight until his or her opponent
has either withdrawn or is defeated. (This is not intended to imply that
in all instances, it will be necessary to attack an enemy. Wisdom is the
better part of valor and information can be gained by observation in many
instances.)
Honor
A
knight conducts oneself with integrity at all times, and in all circumstances.
A knight respects his or her peers and superiors, as well as others who
share their commitment to goodness and justice. He or she recognizes those
of superior rank from other guilds and treats them with respect in acknowledgment
of their status. His or her moral fortitude precludes his or her desire
to inflict undue suffering even upon the most vile evil doer. A knight
would die before betraying his or her principles or those of the guild.
Courtesy
A
knight considers the feelings of those around him or her when speaking
or acting. He or she always shows the proper manners in addressing someone,
and remembers to thank others for any assistance they might give. A knight
never knowingly insults another, and does not engage in slanderous behavior.
He or she maintains control of emotions, refraining from use of foul language,
and offensive behavior. He or she avoids even the appearance of impropriety.
Honesty
A
knight's word is his or her bond, and he or she does not make promises
not intended to be kept. He or she speaks the truth to the best of his
or her knowledge, but may decline to answer if doing so will jeopardize
the security of the guild, or will inflict pain upon another.
Fealty
Once
a commitment is made to the guild, a Knight is bound to the goals and philosophy
of Tannisbury. He or she faithfully serves the guild even in the face of
personal difficulty. He or she respects and honors those elected to leadership
positions, recognizing that those leaders work for the betterment of the
guild.
Humility
A
knight is humble in spirit and action, speaking modestly of his or her
deeds, seeing them as only an opportunity to better the guild. He or she
is embarrassed by praise, and refuses awards for actions performed as what
he or she sees as duty.
Spirituality
A Knight
realizes that his or her special powers are granted by the almighty Tyr,
and not as a result of his or her own talent and as such can just as easily
removed by Tyr. With this in mind, he or she remembers to ask for his divine
assistance in the use of the special powers granted by him (i.e. healing),
and remembers to thank him for his aid in the use of such skill. He or
she remembers that strength comes from above, and as such asks for guidance
in his or her actions, meditating during times of indecision. |
