The
History of ErdrickKE
This is the story of Erdrick,
a descendant of the one great Erdrick,
savior of Alefgard, Dragon Warrior.
From a youth, Erdrick was trained and schooled by the finest
teachers in the land. His parents knew of his ancestry and
bequeathed the honored name to him in hopes he would return his
troubled land to peace and drive away the darkness brought on by a
new onslaught from hell itself. The training was carried out in secret
for the enemies were everywhere. Even before his training was
complete, there was tragedy. His teachers and mentors were
methodically hunted down and killed for their resistance to the evil,
none of which divulged knowledge of Erdrick.
It wasn’t long before even Erdrick’s parents were taken and
executed. This was the final event that he could stand.
In total rage and determination, he set out to avenge all. His skill at
fighting and magic were unmatched as he brought devastation to the
forces of evil that plagued his land. Battle by battle, he reclaimed
city by city, province by province, training others as he went to
maintain the peace that he had won. He even discovered many lost
treasures lost in previous times belonging to the original Erdrick, his
sword, armor, tablet yielding words of wisdom, token that proved his
ancestry and many other treasures that made him a champion of
unparalleled power and ability. Before long, he was able to vanquish
the evil and defeat the dreaded DragonLord, who at the last moment
fled to the netherworld threatening to return.
In his travels, Erdrick made many friends and alliances. There was
one in particular he couldn’t get out of his mind. Her name was
Cassandra. Her beauty was exceptional, not only what the eye could
behold, but permeating through her soul and spirit as well. She was
unlike anyone he had ever seen. With the complexion of fine china,
blue eyes that sparkled and were fathomless, long, rich, dark hair
that glistened like the feathers of a raven, a body to make
Aphrodite jealous, strong of mind as well as stature, she had truly
smitten him. It wasn’t long before their courtship had blossomed to
betrothal and marriage. They settled down in a place called
Moonbrooke Castle and began raising a family. They had two sons and
one daughter. All had been heaven for many years, life could not have
been better.
Erdrick was away with his son in a distant province for several weeks
tending to matters there when word of great disaster reached him.
Moonbrooke Castle had been sacked and all destroyed. There was
only one survivor, a servant who managed to reach a neighboring
province. Erdrick was stunned....it had to be the return of
DragonLord, an almost forgotten threat made true. He made haste,
traveling faster than he had ever done before, almost leaving behind
his son, yet managing somehow to keep him alongside. News had
already spread throughout the land. All were in a horrified stupor,
some wandered aimlessly and others barricaded themselves in their
homes and castles.
As he drew closer to the border of Moonbrooke Province, there was
a distinct odor of death in the air. Soon after crossing the boundary,
the first indication of what was ahead began to appear. Each house,
cabin, farmland and village they passed had been utterly annihilated,
not only people but everything living had been totally mutilated
beyond recognition and the stench was overpowering. Everything had
been sliced, chopped, chewed, mangled and mauled to the point you
could not tell the parts one from another. Carrion were everywhere
as were flies and more stench.
What was found at Moonbrooke Castle was no different, except
maybe worse. Erdrick’s son had gone into a state of shock and did
scarcely move. Erdrick searched and searched for any sign of his
beloved Cassie or his other son or daughter. He thought he found
hints as to their whereabouts as he found a bit of cloth here, and
item of jewelry there, but couldn’t be sure of anything due to the
utter and total mutilation and devastation. Body parts and pieces
were everywhere, none seemed bigger than a hand and those were
mangled and chewed. After hours and hours of searching, fighting
horrible stench, exhaustion and despair, Erdrick came to the only
conclusion he could; they were dead.......gone forever.........the only
thing
left he could do was to set fire to the whole place, indeed the whole
province, to get rid of the decay and disease that would follow if
left alone.
After gathering his son, who now seemed to be in a total stupor and
summoning all the magic at his command, Erdrick cast fireball after
fireball until the once heavenly castle was engulfed in flames. As
they traveled, again, fireball followed fireball in purging the land of
the carnage. His grief and hatred only intensified the effects of
each fireball. He wondered if there had been anything he could have
done to prepare and prevent such a catastrophe.
Erdrick’s son had not spoken nor responded in any way since arriving
at Moonbrooke Castle and Erdrick feared for the worse. He had to
get help for his son and send him as far away as possible for healing
and protection. He knew of a place in a far distant land, with a
peaceful, gentle people who would help. He booked passage on a ship
and sent his son off attended by a friend he could trust.
He then set about planning revenge, destruction and eradication
upon DragonLord and all the incredible forces he had amassed. He
was clever at making effective and swift attacks in unlikely places
as he was assured victories. He knew he could not attack directly or
systematically reclaim any areas without wearing down the enemy or
acquiring help.
In his battles, he ran across a fierce warrior who fought like none he
had seen. The tactics and style were somewhat familiar and the
effects were like unto his own. He hailed this warrior and they
became allies and friends. His name was Derrick and in talking about
their past and training, they soon realized they had many common
connections. Derrick learned from many masters and teachers who
had learned from Erdrick’s masters and teachers of his youth.
Derrick had never known his parents as they were killed soon after
he was born. In exploring the pasts and striking similarities and when
their parents had been killed, they came to a startling
conclusion.......They were brothers. Derrick had just then come to
realize his full ancestry and heritage.
They were a true force to be reckoned with as they fought side by
side, defeating foe after foe, slowly regaining parts of Alefgard
from the control of DragonLord. In conquering areas, they learned
of many riddles and puzzles brought about by the return of
DragonLord and his forces. One such puzzle involved a princess who
was turned into a dog. Of course, they set out to solve this riddle
and succeeded in returning the princess to her original human form.
It turned out she was a far distant cousin, another descendant of
the original Erdrick and quite a formidable enchantress at that.
The three of them fought together and finally won the land back
from the vile DragonLord and defeated him once and for all,
preventing any escape at the last moment, ending his life and
wreaking revenge for all the pain and suffering he had caused.
Erdrick continued for some time in the land of his birth, but without
his beloved Cassandra, he could find no real happiness. Alefgard was
in the hands of good people and loving leaders. Erdrick departed and
began a quest to find the peace and happiness that could fill his
heart and life. He traveled to far distant lands, helping in any way he
could, bringing peace, order, and justice to many troubled peoples.
He saw great wonders and made many great friends, yet there was
still something missing in his life. He even found his son, who he once
sent away. His son had fully recovered and found a great life in the
high, snow-covered mountains. He had adopted the name GoingLarge,
for his love of the snow and a strange way of traveling on it (but,
that is his story).
Together again, they traveled and learned even more of the world
they lived in. Eventually, they found a place called Neverwinter. They
found it a place full of troubles and many who needed their help.
There was much to do and they never seemed to travel much
together, but made many of the same friends and kept in touch by
carrier pigeon.
Erdrick had met many a warrior and made many friends. One had
even asked him to join his group that he called a guild. This seemed
to be a reasonable thing to do and after a time, Erdrick was made a
Knight in that guild. After several months, the leaders seemed to be
gone from the realms or not interested in any more growth or
participation. Other members of the guild had voiced some concern
and much desire to see more done with the guild. With the help and
aid of a squire of his, who was by then a Knight also, they forged a
new guild that became known as the Guardians of Light. Now he and
GoingLarge have a new home to share and leave messages for
one-another.
Erdrick found it necessary to adopt a new name with a KE at the end
to signify what he had become through all his travels. The ‘K’
signified a Knight that was true in many lands. The ‘E’ signifies much
more, Explorer, Errant, Exemplar, Expositor, Educator, Emancipator,
or Equerry, each of which he was and will be for a long time to come.
