1) Introduction and improvements.
-----------------------------------

NETMAZE is a simple freeware multiplayer network game.
It wasn't really meant to be a game in the first place,
it was just to test some IPX-code. However, people seemed
to like the idea in the game, so here it is.
	Hope you enjoy it :)

This game was created with Tasm 4.0 and Turbo Pascal 7.0.
NETMAZE is a tribute to the greatest computer through
history - The Commodore 64 - it will live on forever.

System requirements: 80386 or above, VGA, 320 kb ram,
less than a megabyte of harddisk space and
			      a netcard (surprise!).

Type "Netmaze /?" for command-line options.

New in NETMAZE v3.7: 1. Improved Cpu speed checking.
			      2. New bonus - super shield!
			      3. Dead players now start with a
small shield so they don't die
right away again - some people complained
about this but it's fixed now.
			      4. Digital Sound FX! NETMAZE will
				 autodetect your soundcard and try
to use it (soundblaster, soundblaster 16
or compatibles) for some sound effects.
You can turn it off if you want to,
type "netmaze /?" to see how.
			      5. Various bug fixes - some collision
				 detection code is improved.
			      6. New Cheat codes!
(They are pretty hard to find, though)

Additional Credits: Sound code - Bells & Whistles 1.20 by Edward Schlunder.
Improved Cpu speed detection code - by Vladimir
                              Zakharychev (thanks!)

2) Notes about the source code.
---------------------------------

Well, I never thought that I would have to write this text file.
In the autumn of 1996 I had just read a textfile about ipx-programming
written by Daniel Parnell and it was great. So I started to write a small
game to test my ipx-code. Thus NETMAZE 1.0 was born. In the first version
the players were just 2 boxes and no terrain, hiscores, no nothing. And
only 2 players could play. At that time I had a 486DX2 and I needed
another computer at home to test the game properly - so I used a 386 - 16
MHz and it was actually good to test it on a very slow computer - fixed
many bugs that way. I took the game with me to my highschool and we tried
it on the computer network. People liked the game very much - so I had to
make new version with more special weapons and other things. This
development cycle was great fun and at certain time I made a new version
every day - making small improvements in game play. This went on for 2
months until the game was banned from the school computers because
everybody was playing it. So the time between new version become longer
and longer. And now I haven't really programmed on the project for about
5 months. But the game is still played by people at various network
parties - and it always warms my heart to see people enjoing the game.
I have got some emails from people saying they would like the source.
And here it is - the complete NETMAZE Source - everything needed to build
the executable and all the data files.
In the "Source" directory you will all the source. Please bear in mind
that some objects file are not made by me - they have been given credit
in the "readme.txt". So some assembler files for their code is not
included. I used Turbo Pascal 7.0 and Tasm 4.0 to compile the game.

IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING.

I don't release this so that some jerk can put his own name in and
compile the game. No, I do believe that free source code is a good thing
   - you can learn a lot by studying other people's source. You are welcome
to include new things in the game or/and improve on it - but please if
you want to release/distribute it then send it to me first - because I
have really spent much time on this game and I would hate to see it
ruined. I welcome any suggestions or additions to the game that enhances
the gameplay. Again - please send it to me and ask me before releasing
it. That's the least you can do. No one is allowed to realease a NETMAZE
version without my permission! You can use the code in your own projects
   - but don't make a clone game. Do something original with it.
NETMAZE version 3.7 will properly be the last version from my hand -
   but you never know!

   FINAL NOTE

I hope that you find the sources useful. The source was never written to
be released - so it's not very good structured or beautiful written.
Also there is a lack of comments and you may find some comments in danish
   - my apoligies for this.

3) How to install the NETMAZE Themes.
---------------------------------------

To install a NETMAZE Theme you have to overwrite the standard "netmaze.pcx" located in
the NETMAZE directory with one of the files from the themes directory.
Now you run Netmaze as usual, and you have new graphics!

This package contains the standard theme and the Startrek NETMAZE Theme.

4) Download updates.
----------------------

Due to heavy load on NETMAZE's old homepage, it was shut down.
My ISP didn't want to host NETMAZE's homepage anymore, simply because it was too bandwith
demanding :) Therefore I've created some mirror sites to smoothen out the load:

List of mirrors: http://come.to/netmaze (forward address)
 Get2net: http://hjem.get2net.dk/netmaze
 MobilixNet: http://netmaze.mobilixnet.dk
 Xoom: http://members.xoom.com/netmaze

From time to time these may also be shutdown, if so, try searching for NETMAZE on
Altavista. That's the only way...
Of course I'll see to it that it doesn't happen, and at least try to keep the forwarding
address up.
