Just the facts, ma'am . . . (a.k.a. Author Notes)
The A.I. Gang comes from the A.I. Gang trilogy of books by Bruce Coville. They're science fiction young adult novels, but I really love them!
An island by the name of Anza-bora will probably be mentioned quite a bit. Here's a short summary of what happened at the island without giving away too many things (in case you wind up reading the books):
A group of the best computer programmers are invited to Anza-bora island on a huge project. They all take their families with them. Due to the secrecy of the project, there is no kind of communication reaching outside of the island, except for mail.
A small group of teens now live on the island because they moved there with their families. They soon figure out that the project is to build some sort of A.I. (artificial intellegence. For anyone who doesn't know, artificial intellegence is a thinking computer. It has logic and everything.). The kids then decide to try to race their parents and the other scientists on the island to making A.I. They team up with Hap, who had already lived there from when the island had once been a navy base.
On their way to making A.I., the kids have to save the island from two different spies and a religious fanatic. It's up to them because the parents are so busy with their own work that they don't see any of the signs. One of the spies, Black Glove, is actually one of the scientists. This spy is in all three books and is behind much more than meets the eye.
That's as far as I'm going. So that you know the A.I. Gang better, there's a list of them with some of their characteristics.
Characters:
- Wendy (main character of this fic series)
- - from California
- - really good hacker
- - really good at miniature robotics
- - basically a kid genious
- - took karate or tae kwon do (some kind of martial arts, though the books never went into detail)
- - doesn't have many friends
- - really short (but, I had her grow a bit between this story and the last book)
- - curses like a sailor
- - almost always gets away with everything (She likes to show people up. Like I said earlier, she's good with computers, so she uses that to her advantage.)
- - can be intimidating and somewhat scary at times (even, and sometimes especially, to her friends)
- - puts the word "plasma" in front of letters (example: plasmagoric, plasmarific) as an exclamation. She says "chips" as an exclamation as well, when she isn't using a curse word, that is.
- - She doesn't have a sister in the books, but I'm giving her an older one in the story. Her name is Lianna. She was also on Anzabora Island with Wendy and their parents.
- - was nicknamed "the wonderchild" by her parents. It was later adopted by her teachers because they wondered if she was a child.
- - addicted to hamburgers (known for putting weird stuff on them, too)
- Ray
- - from New York city
- - short (him and Wendy were the same height in the books, but, since I had Wendy grow, she's taller now.)
- - loves basketball
- - has very thick glasses
- - father famous for Gamma Ball (an arcade game where players team up and play against other teams of players. From the how it was described in the books, it sounds like it's holographic.)
- - Wendy sometimes scares him
- Trip
- - from Philedelphia
- -really tall (this contributes to his clumsiness)
- - has a cat named Lunkhead
- - parents are overprotective
- - parents don't like cars and stuff like that (they are huge environmentalists)
- - oldest one of the Gang
- - usually very optimistic. Usually.
- Rachel
- - from Cambridge
- - twin sister of Roger
- - she's a walking encyclopedia
- - sincere one of the group
- - has incredible red hair
- - was involved with Hap
- - loves coffee
- - basically Wendy's best friend
- Roger
- - from Cambridge
- - twin brother of Rachel
- - also a walking encyclopedia
- - has a corny sense of humor
- - spokesperson and un-official leader of the group
- - also has incredible red hair
- - prankster
- Hap
- - mechanic
- - dreamer of the group
- - lived on Anza-bora
- - now lives in Santa Barbara [(I made that part up) Santa Barbara is in Northern California]
- - was involved with Rachel
- - can stay calm in any situation
- - known as an optimist
That's about it. All other characters in the story are either not that important or were made up by me. Have fun, and read the books!
