This SO pisses me off!

This is the true story (true story!) of two fanfic writers given a love for Jubilee. What happens when one becomes a hypocrite and starts getting fake? The Fanfic World. Okay, this is a gripe (read a really pissy writing) about something that happened to me recently. I urge any fanfiction writers and/or readers to read this, no matter the genre they like.

There's a writer I used to admire quite a bit. Let's call him Mr. Zeal, 'cause I think it sounds cool. I admired him because, no matter what anybody said about his superb stories, he just shrugged it off. Now, before I go any further, I can almost guarantee that none of you could guess who he is. He wasn't really into the whole fanfiction scene, I guess you can call it, and he only wrote three fanfiction stories, one of which can only be seen at his site.

Anyway, for the longest time, I held one of his stories as dogma. It was short, sweet, depressing, and just great! It was actually one of the first fics I ever read, and it pulled me into the dark world known as 'the fanfic world.' (Okay, so I made that up myself.) Slowly, an idea for a sequel to the story came to me. It wasn't much of an idea, and I thought that I would expand on it once I had Mr. Zeal's permission to do a sequel.

I wrote an e-mail to him a while ago. I waited and waited and waited for a response until I finally received one on about a month later 28. Mr. Zeal "desired" me not to write a story but left it up to me to not write one. If he had just told me he didn't want me to write one, I wouldn't be making such a fuss. I'd respect his wish. One of his reasons was that, in his own words, "This story means a lot to me personally and I'd like it if it remained "alone"." I can understand that. In fact, if he had spent the rest of his five paragraph letter (or had just had that one sentence) on that one reason, I wouldn't be writing this. Actually, that reason was only brought up in that one sentence, while another reason seemed to be the subject of the whole letter. And that subject was . . .

INFRINGEMENT!!!!!

Okay. Now I'm confused. See, to write a fanfic, one must infringe on the writes of the owners and creators of characters, places, events, etcetera. Which brings up the question: If his infringement was okay, why wouldn't mine be? He said that if I were to write a sequel, it would be, in his words, "infringement on my ideas." What about the comic book writers, editors, creators, artists, and everyone else at Marvel whose ideas he must have infringed to write his story? I just can't understand this.

::sighs:: Well, in Mr.Zeal's own words, " . . . one must do what one must do . . . ," and I must do this. It's a plea to any and all fanfic writers and/or readers from another fanfic writer/reader. Don't be a hypocrite. First, nobody likes them (as a result to Mr. Zeals' lame ass excuse, I no longer admire him.). Second, it's only a matter of time before you're a hypocrite in everything you do, not just fanfiction. Which brings me to my third reason, which is the same as my first.

I will not be writing a sequel to Mr. Zeal's story, not because I respect his decision but because my time should be spent on something that deserves it.
