The Cold
as if You Were Dead
(Millais' Ophelia)
You
thought I wore my heart on my sleave
As easy to read as the Laughing Cavalier.
But I was false with everyone
Trying to be true to you.
Not knowing what I wanted most,
I would not allow you into my Madness.
Pushing you away while drawing you in.
Even when you cast the bones,
Throwing your fate with mine.
And I drove you crazy like Ophelia
Your dress growing heavy with tears,
Pulling you down to your death
Taking color of life with you
Washed down into the ocean
Along with my heart
Long ago filled with the dark I embraced.
