Aeyn is the predominant city in the Moonsea and that dominance rests upon the trade that flows through it.  Because the elves and the wizards refuse trade with Baklava, Aeyn has become a regional trade center.  Additionally, spices are gems mined in the Lapis Archipelageo and from Gorba far to the north sail to Aeyn for distribution.  As such, the Aeyn Florin is the leading currency in the region.  The currency of the elves, the Cirque is valued highly foremost because of the quality of goods that leave Moonshadow, and secondly becaus the riches of the Moondaughter are legendary.  Baklava's Rupee trades as a close third because of the strength of its trade ties with the great Empires south of the Dry Desert.  However, because the Rupee is not accepted as anything more than base gold in both Moonshadow and Waxholm, its value falls.  Wizardly Spiros and Drakhmas trade last, the currencies of the nations weakest in trade.  Both the spiro and the drakhma are falling out of circulation as the florin becomes the dominant currency in both Cabral and Waxholm.  Currencies marked with an asterisk (*) are the primary currencies of their country.

Aeyn's coins are square shaped, about 1/4 inch across.  All coins feature Castle Aeyn on one side.  Southgate is on the bottom side of the the ACF, while the ASF shows the Great University.  The Gold Florin contains a crescent shot of the moon Lunaria and a demon.  These coins have been minted since about a century after the Lunar Wars, but the older ones are taken and reminted continuously.

There is a Gold Rupee (GR) worth 100GR, but it is only used by large traders, not as common currency.

Rupees are made of a translucent, glasslike material.  The rupees are spherical balls colored either red, green, or red.  Besides their use as money, the glass has no other redeeming value.

Drakhmas are perhaps the weakest currency in the Moonsea, just as Cabral is the poorest in the region.  Rains have left the coastal plains barren over the last few years, and the more fertile areas in the hills suffer from a lack of direct access to trade.  The drakhma is a circular coin made of gold.  Drakes are made of silver.  A drinn is a cubic piece of cabroldite, a common ore known only to exist in the hills of southern Cabral.

Cirques are yet another evidence of the wonder and power resident in Moonshadow.  The cirque is a circular coin with a hole in the center.  In darkness cirques carry a very slight glow, just bright enough to be perceived, but not bright enough to see by.  Halves are literally one-half of a cirque.  The coins can be divided by merely applying slight pressure to opposite sides of the cirque, thus splitting it exactly in two.  Furthermore, by placing any two halves together, they combine to form an exact cirque.

Wizards are an eccentric lot, and only the council of Waxholm would mint money as strange as the spire.  Each "coin" is a polyhedronical shape with a different number of vertices, either five, six, eight, ten, or twelve.  The coins are made of a different colors, but are dark stone very difficult to break.  Each coin is marked with a different sigil on each side.  All coins contain the seal of Waxholm, but the sides of the others coins are known only to wizards.
