| Mermaids are beautiful creatures of the sea. The top half of their body is human-like, while the bottom half is a fish-like tail. There is another type of a mermaid called a "reverse-mermaid". A "reverse-mermaid" hads the top half of its body like a fish, while the bottom half is like a human. | |||||||||||||||||

| Most people think that there are only female mermaids, but thats not the case. There is a male equivalent of a mermaid called a merman. Mermen have been thought to be more wild and uglier than mermaids. While others said that mermen were just as good-looking as mermaids. Unlike mermaids who are very interested in humans, mermen seem to have less interest. That is why people say that they see females and not males. | |||||||||||||||||

| It is also believed that mermaids have powers similar to the Sirens. Like the Sirens, they luered fishermen to their death by their beautiful singing. Mermaids have been known to be very dangerous to men, while on the other hand, they are protectors or women. But there have been stories of ship accident where men were drowning and mermaids saved them and brought them safely to shore. | |||||||||||||||||
