Bio: Born Joseph William Kurzowski on February 8th, 1970 to John and Mary Kurzowski in Chicago, Illinois of half-Polish, half-Irish heritage. His family lived in the Bridgeport neighborhood on the City's Near South Side, about 3 blocks from Comiskey Park. His family were blue-collar working class people living in a somewhat safe neighborhood thanks to the presence of Mayor Richard J. Daley's house a block or two over. But Joe was a small child, and was picked on often in grammar school. This only served to toughen him up.
It wasn't until high school when he had his growth spurt, and soon he was one of the largest kids at DeLasalle High School. Joe was instantly recruited to play football and wrestle, but wrestling was his true love. After playing football freshman and sophomore year, he turned solely to wrestling, and excelled at it. He came very close to winning the state championship his junior year in the 180 pound class, but he bulked up some more for senior year, and he took the IHSA State Title in the 190 pound class. 3 days later, his brother John, a 4 year Chicago police veteran, was shot and killed in the line of duty by gang members in an alley. This devastated Joe, and his family was featured in a top Chicago TV news story that week. He didn't want the exposure, and became a recluse.
Joe missed several college scholarships and worked odd jobs around the neighborhood for two years until finally, while he was working at a local grocery store, a local promoter from Windy City Pro Wrestling happened to be shopping there, and after noticing Joe's considerable frame, approached him about going to a wrestling tryout. Joe's eyes lit up at the opportunity and instantly agreed. He impressed everyone at that tryout and was instantly signed.
Joe was a natural, and excelled quickly, taking the ring name King Krusher. He worked in other Midwestern promotions, gaining local popularity as well as body mass with an intense workout regimen. It was during this time that he met his current girlfriend, who was the sister of one of his fellow wrestlers. Kelly was a beautiful, hazel-eyed sweetheart, and Joe fell instantly in love. The rigors of the road prevented them from getting married, as Joe entered his first big-time promotion in 1991, Paul Miller's NGEN.
K.K. quickly rose in the ranks and became the leagues' Television Champion and establishing himself as a major face. Next up was the MFL where he won their Street Title due to his street fighting prowess. KK was represented by Scott Malec, his agent, who opened up the UFWA. KK won their American Title, before leaving wrestling for a year and a half break to spend time with his parents and Kelly. K.K returned with a vengeance in 1995, joining the CWL, and the NFWA, where he won the US Title. The NFWA closed and he then entered the AFWC, where he won his crowning glory, his first and only World Title. Krusher ventured to the ACW, MRW, UWA, and IWC and became a top player in each league, and won one title, the IWC World Tag Team Title with "Awesome" Anthony Edwards. Krusher managed to maintain his mega-fan favorite status throughout the turbulent 90s was involved in lengthy feuds with the likes of the Franchise, the NEH/UA, Devil's Incarnate, Eddie Mayfield, and his arch-nemesis, Maelstrom.
There may not be two more evenly-matched wrestlers in the world than Maelstrom and King Krusher, and their battles were legendary throughout the NFWA, AFWC, IWC, and even for a short stint in the FWF. Shockingly enough, KK and Maelstrom were set to make a run at the IWC Tag Team Titles when that league shut its doors. Krusher then took another extended break until recently accepting the invitation of Eddie McCann to join the WAR promotion in Japan. KK is starting over again in a new country, and we will see what the future has in store for him....
