Round 1:

Review:

Well what a round it has been in Manta Division, we have seen the two new comers Kilarney and Brisbane go head to head to stamp out their positions in the league as well as argueably the best team in Manta Division, Big Show, go up against the Mystic Wizards. Ok now heres my wrap on each of Round 1's games:

Outback Razorbacks v Noble Park Rattlesnakes:

This battle took place at Noble Parks homeground to an crowd of 16700 in attendance. It saw Robbie Ahmat of the Razorbacks make a 10 goal haul with 87 posessions, he was clearly the best player on the Rattlesnakes side today. Ferris Jones for Noble Park kicked 5 goals, with many other players in the side contributing to the teams effort, there were also 3 players that touched the ball 24 times, shows that this team doesn't rely on one player but shares the load amongst the whole team, but after half time it seemed like Noble Park had run out of steam, and this was clearly shown in the final score which saw Outback 74 point victors.

Kilarney Cats v Brisbane Bombers:

What a real nailbiter this was at the Bombers homeground infront of a crowd of 14258 cram into the small Sandgate Oval. Both these teams are new to Manta Division and there were high expectations of this game. It was expected that Kilarney would tromp all over the newly established Bombers with new coach Chris Fairman at the helm. The game was a tight one all day, with both teams taking any opportunity to score, the highest goal kicker in each side in this match were Boris Yeltzin scored 3 goals for the Cats and Jimmy Lloyd who scored 5 for the Bombers. Peter Denham of Brisbane easily had the most touches with a total of 48, the closest to this was Billy Brownless of the Cats with 40 touches. After both teams slogging it off the Bombers were victorious by the slimest of margins, 1 point.

North Ormeau v Niebelhiem:

A small crowd of 12637 turned out to see North Ormeau take on Niebelhiem at Niebelhiems homeground. This game was what all the top officials in Manta Division were looking at as the newly made Niebelhiem Chocobos played their first game against North Ormeau who were upgraded from Maloo Division to Manta Division. Tomass Wagger of North Ormeau scored 6 goals and was the highest goal kicker for his team, the Niebelhiem Star took the most goals for his team as he bagged 5 for the day. Vincent Valentine of Niebelhiem easily topped the posessions for the game with 80 touches of the ball and Rados Wog of North Ormeau touched the ball the most for his team. Niebelhiem in the first game looked strong and remained competetive throughout the whole game but North Ormeau hung on to win by 10 points.

Urinal Cakes v McCrae Mullets:

Both teams having already played in the ARFFEL before come into this game with experience. It was played at McCrae's homeground infront of the smallest crowd of the round, 10719. Even despite the poor attendance it happened to be the biggest goal kicking frenzy all round. Tim Cummings bagged an amazing 15 goals for McCrae, this was the form that to saw the Urinal Cakes go down in a ball of fire, Daniel Harford of McCrae also took the most amount of touches with a total of 74. The highest scorer among the Urinal Cakes was Albert Botbot with 4 goals and the highest amount of touches by an individual on the side was Johnny Luvcox with 64 possessions. The Urinal Cakes were always on the recieving end of the McCrae Mullets vital blows. Put it down to the homeground advantage or just pure skill, the McCrae Mullets came out victors with a 134 point victory, the highest of the round.

Big Show v Mystic Wizards 2:

This was the battle of the Manta Division titans, most easily expected Big Show to win. The game was played at Mystics home ground infront of 16418 people. The leading goal kicker on each side was Mystic 2's Jeff Direct with 5 and Peter Salmon of Big Show with 4. The people who saw most of the ball were Peter Salmon with 58 touches and both Deric Panel and Anthony Williams with 27 from Mystic 2. Despite the nonexistance of Big Show's team line up they still were victors on the day with a comfortable 15 point win. The Big Show will prove to be the hardest team to battle in Manta Division this season, although the playing field may be level because Big Show has taken on a new coach this season. Only the remainder of the season will tell us.

Injuries/Suspensions:

Only one injury and suspension came out of this round, it was in the clash between Big Show and Mystic Wizards 2 at Football Park. Lee Frank was tackled heavily during the game and this resulted in a hairline fracture to his arm, he is going to be out for 7 weeks. As a result Scott Crawford of the Big Show has been suspended for 3 weeks for charging Lee Frank.
