SPRITES (Wee Ones)
Tiny and impossibly slender
people, about five or six inches high, with wings of various kinds -- from
butterfly wings, to moth-wings, to dragonfly wings, to even a falcon's
wings. The Sprites are almost always quite inhuman-looking, with
strange ridges on their faces and bodies, no hair, big black eyes, claws,
long arms, long feet, and skin that is usually a pale blue, violet, yellow,
rose, or green. They are similar to the Manikin Thallain of the Little
People, but it is this inhuman appearance that distinguishes the Sprites.
In Greece, they are called
Kallicantizari or Kalkes, and are hairy with long tails; the Kalkes are
attracted to open fires in winter, where they wreak havoc, steal food,
and douse the fire, but they can only attack you if they know your name.
ASRAI (WATER BABIES)
Found only in lakes, streams,
and rivers, these little women stand only a few inches high, with skin
in glossy hues of dark blue or black, and silvery-white hair that streams
and floats all around them. They sing pleasantly, and often are so
charming and pleasant to be around that mortals are compelled to make companions
of them, but they shrivel and die if taken from the water for too long.
GRIGS (FIELD-FAERIES)
Tiny little men with the
legs, wings, and antennae of a cricket, the grigs are known for wild merriment
and constant mischief. They carry spears and swords when they war,
but prefer to loosen saddle-straps, tie shoelaces together, use tripwires,
and leap into their opponents' faces as distraction.
SALAMANDERS
Best known as small crimson,
orange, or black lizards that crawl out of fires, salamanders are .
They are capable of standing up on their hind legs, and then it can be
seen that the froglike faces hold a glimmer of purpose, that their black
glossy eyes hold a spark of intelligence.
Will'o Wisps, on the other
hand, are
SPIRIT-FORM --
STRANGE SKIN -- Often bluish,
greenish, reddish, or transparent.
STRANGE EYES -- Often one
solid color: blue, green, fiery, or black. Also may be glowing softly.
STRANGE HAIR -- Could be
white, silver, made of vines or twigs, always blowing as if in a wind (even
when there's no wind).
ALWAYS DRIPPING -- The faerie's
physical form is always dripping wet, or at least, very damp. Dew forms
on the skin, the hair is always wet, puddles form around the faerie's feet.
ALWAYS HOT / COLD -- The
faerie is constantly icy or feverish to the touch.
NATURA -- The elementals
are famous among the fae for their ability to speak to and interact with
the spirits of nature, and they are able to call upon flower-spirits for
counsel, tree-spirits for aid, and earth-spirits for protection.
DREAMDANCE -- The elementals
known as the Morae, faeries of time and fate, are known for their ability
to enter the dreams of mortals, and for their practice of occasionally
"possessing" the bodies of sleeping mortals.
INVISIBILITY -- This is the
most common ability of all elementals, and is their first line of defense...
the faerie causes their physical body to be invisible. When they've
shed their physical forms they are naturally invisible to all except those
with Primal Spirit-Sight.
CAMOFLAGE --
MEMORY MIST --
FAERIESIGHT --
FATUAA --
LOVECHARM --
