The ConceptThe Guildhouse At Ardais has been formed in the spirit of Marion Zimmer Bradley's Darkover Renunciates and adapted to our lives in today's world. Like the fictional Renunciates, we Modern Day Renunciates believe that women can be strong and independent, have a close bonding within a group of sisters, and still live and love fairly and equally in this world. We honor each other as sisters just as we honor our families and loved ones. There is a deep commitment to the Guildhouse, and we are loyal to our principles. Do not mistake us for an internet role playing game, or a fictional group. We are a true organization of like minded women who use the flexibility of the web to facilitate our communication with sisters from all over the world.
As Marion Zimmer Bradley's Darkover had many guildhouses, so, as our numbers grow, will the Modern Day Renunciates. We celebrate the special days in our lives and our ceremonies mark the moments of importance. We meet officially every other year at a convention and in between enjoy individual meetings when they can be arranged. The Oath of the Modern Day Renunciate is the creed by which we live and The Guildhouse Rules our mode of operation. At any time of the night or day, any number of sisters from any part of the world can be found in our virtual guildhouse, swapping tales or sharing parts of their lives. A mail list serves as our forum for discussion. Topics range from Marion Zimmer Bradley's Darkover novels and other favorite books, women's issues and lofty ideals to just plain every day life experiences.
Through our daily contact with each other, we reinforce the worth of women, and our place in the world. We encourage personal growth and support our sisters in their daily endeavors.
