Three Thousand Years after the Plight
Three thousand years before the setting of my campaign, the world existed as a land of harmony and balance. Two gods looked after the land and cared for it with all their hearts, and they saw it as a good world- a good world they so named Aramon- the World of Plenty. In this world existed all the creatures a mind could imagine- creatures like Dwarves, Elves, Humans, Halflings, and many fantastic beasts. The gods looked over their world carefully as to not disturb their amazing progress. Civilizations grew and were made prosperous. Technology advanced and enveloped modern societies. Magical powers had been discovered and aided in this age of plenty. The gods saw all of this, and they were made happy.
The people, loving of their gods, praised and worshiped them with all their hearts, and the gods saw all of this and were made happy.
Everyone loved one another, and everyone contributed to the advancement of society.
For generations the world was good, yet the destruction of all good the brandisher of all evil remains true throughout every thing and every force in the universe. And the catalyst for such a power is only time.
The gods saw their world as good, but as the world bettered itself the gods got, slowly, ever more greedier. Slowly but surely lust and power dominated the wishes of the gods, not pride and advancement. The gods eventually turned to each other and ultimately went to war with one another.
One god emerged triumphant from a horrendous battle. Having slain the other god, he was free to advance the world as he wished.
The one deity, however, had still a good heart wishing the most progress for his People, but the People, being dismayed by the pangs of war, began to look upon themselves, and by doing this the People too saw the greed and power that lied within them, and they all soon began to isolate themselves and better themselves rather than their fellow beings.
This brief period of turmoil became known as the Age of Unbalance, and this age so dominated the last ages of Aramon- the World of Plenty. It was in this time the first disputes took place, and the first battles were fought. After time wars began, treachery ran amok, and law slowly became stricter and harsher. This Age of Unbalance sprung the coming of four heroes, who, by determination and love for their people, undertook the challenge of destroying the one god, by whom Unbalance began, and claim rule of the people, so that peace and harmony would once again be restored.
The heroes set off and gallantly slew the one god, and as expected, they assumed leadership of the new world and proudly declared the coming of a new age- an Age of Reconciliation- an age that will remain scarred in the bosom of all for thousands of years to come.
It wasn't long before the four heroes saw the uncontrollable forces the same gods had once witnessed. Eventually, the forces of lust, greed, and the power that overtook the gods now was bestowed upon the new rulers. Bickering and constant dispute over who had more power ended up in full blown warfare. This was the Apocalypse, where each hero now took sides and gathered all the people together for the final fight. The heroes now yearned for the power they believed was theirs. However, all was not hopeless; the last great hero, a demigod, desired peace more than anyone else. For his beliefs he chose to fight for an end to the war himself, for he yearned for a return to the old civilization more than anyone in the world. The armies collided, their battlefield massive. Almost everyone in the world took part in the Great Fight. All fought with might. The four former heroes battled among themselves in the midst of battle. It was here the greatest fight among the heroes took place. In the midst of a great battle, they destroyed each other in a power hungry fervor, and in the end one triumphed. After the great battle all people were destroyed. Few survivors remained, and those who did scattered into exile, no longer caring about sides but about life.
In the end there were two people left on the battlefield- the mightiest of the four heroes and the Great Demigod. From here came the greatest battle known to mankind. The earth was the battlefield, constrained only by the force of gravity. Long and hard the demi- god and the hero fought, and this great battle for millennia would be called The Withdrawel. Cities were destroyed, mountains leveled, water poisoned, forests burned, and most of all people slewn. They fought until the end, when it was the human who, now being more like an evil god than a mortal, eventually banished the demi-god to reside in a new dimension.
Proud was the hero who destroyed the demi-god and conquered the world, but saddened was he who turned and faced the world he had defaced. His once proud planet was now but a barren wasteland. From what could he gain by ruling a wasteland? The "hero," reduced to but miserly status, would remain immortal for the rest of his life because he destroyed the demi-god, but would be punished to this new ruinous land. He, saddened by what he and his former companions had wrought, built himself a lone tower upon a mountain peak with a throne constructed of stone, only to look at the world he could not rule, and stare only at the desolation he had created, for the rest of eternity.
Only a handful of people survived the battle, and life was now made difficult, for no longer existed the forests, plains, wild animals, or technology, but utter desolation.
The world had emerged, scarred for eternity, to exist as a desert planet, and to remain a land of many hardships.
But from the desolation of the cataclysmic battle there remained three areas unchanged by the tides of destruction. These lands were to become known as the Sacred Lands, and to this day they bind all existing life.
And many remaining People had will to survive, and the People of this time became known as the Valar, and to this day they are the most respected and powerful people in the world.
The Valar in each area grouped together all the animals, primarily the most abundant ones- cows, pigs, sheep, dogs, camels, etc.- and put them to use for domestic purposes. Then they gathered all the last vestiges of society- documents, undamaged artifacts, and other crucial items- and put them to use.
The transition age was the most difficult in the history of the world. For hundreds of generations society progressed. Uses of the resources of the land were being rediscovered, and remnants of the past and past knowledges were unearthed constantly. Magic, being widely researched again, was reborn, and with time it became an integral part of everyday life.
With time, culture progressed, and with time civilizations grew, creating the world we have today- a very lively world where life, technology, arts, and magic flourish, but a world where harmony and peace do not.
