Hello there,
I would say there's more than one Holy Grail in the Wargaming World.
Firstly there's the perfect show, then there's the perfect figure
range, the perfect rules that combine historic accuracy with excellent
game play, and of course there's the ideal club. My feeling is that a
games club should not be a private & exclusive crowd of like minded
geeks but an open, friendly welcoming group of people who enjoy gaming
for pleasure and don't take the activity (or themselves) too seriously.
Surely the aim is to spend an entertaining afternoon wargaming,
otherwise it wouldn't be much of a pastime. With this in mind I'd rather
lose a close fought enjoyable game than win at all costs
For myself, I've been gaming for the last 20 years, on and off. I've
always enjoyed gaming but I would say my greatest pleasure comes
painting and scenery making.
I enjoy scratch building most of my scenery including houses, castles,
trees, hills, rivers and roads. I collect and game 6 mm, 15 mm and 25 mm
and my main armies are Colonial Africa, Medieval and 7 yrs war British &
French. Even though I own some commercial rules, and started my very
early gaming using Games Workshop (in the long lost days of Northern
Militaire and Citadel figures with round bases instead of irritating
slotta bases) I do enjoy writing, illustrating and producing my own
rules. These rules tend to use a rolling cumulative morale system with
dice rolling and table references being kept to a reasonable minimum. I
also enjoy hosting and umpiring role play/skirmish games such as WWII,
Colonial Africa, Pirates and the Wild West.
So there you have it, I'm a gamer that's more of a painter and the
enjoyment I get from the club tends to be in hosting and umpiring games.
Feel free to Email me , I'll do my
best to reply but I can't make any promises.
Good Gaming
