Sailormercury is the strategist behind the inner senshi. As the sailor soldier of wisdom her abilities are mainly concerned with planning attacks and uncovering the schemes of the enemy. Her powers, associated with water and ice, are often more defensive than offensive. But when her powers and her intelligence are combined she can be a formidable opponent. She can calculate the enemy's weakest point and defeat them with a well placed attack.

Along with being a senshi, she is also the reigning princess of the planet Mercury. She has her own palace called the Mariner Castle.

In her normal guise, Mizuno Ami (which means "Friend of Water") is still a genius. It is rumored that her IQ is around 300. Like the other senshi, her family is more than well off financially. She lives in a mansion with her mother, a gifted doctor who inspired Ami in her own dreams. Her father is an artist; she rarely sees him since her parents are separated. Ami is a quiet and shy girl that prefers intellectual activities and can often be found with her nose buried in a book. As a child she never had any close friends. This is probably why she doesn't have much confidence in her own abilities. It is also why she is reluctant to confide in others.

Most people either love or hate Sailormercury. She is arguably the least powerful senshi, but invaluable for her mental gifts. And she provides a good balance to Usagi's carefree nature. While she is not one of my favorites, I can't help but like Ami. I think it is mostly because I see myself in her. I also did not have many friends as a child, and I buried myself in books and school work. I understand her fear of rejection. I'm glad she finally found good friends, just as I did...good things are worth waiting for!
