THE STRUCTURE OF THE TRIBE
The Tribal Voice (cont)
So, it would seem that any collection of the tribe, which makes camp together, may have a tribal Voice. This ensures communication within the group & enables communication with other groups. Occasionally a very successful voice has caused many to be drawn to the First-fire.
Haveloch Tribal Voice in the years 621 & 623 by common reckoning had 300 around his First-fire. Obviously this number became too cumbersome, as the time of talking would last for days! Haveloch declared the Ceremony of Two-fires; this requires that a second, third or more fire is lit from the flames of the first. The Tribe divided amongst the new fires and a voice was chosen at each fire. When the talking was done at each of the smaller fires then all of the Tribal Voices returned to the First-fire to discuss and make plans for the many. In this way a sort of order is formed from the chaos of the many.
The importance and power of the voice cannot be emphasised enough, but one must always temper this with the knowledge of how the Voices power manifests. It is an unwise student who sees the voice simply as a leader for they are more than this. The voice is like the axle of a cartwheel and the members are the spokes and rim. If either were to be missing then the wheel would simply not turn.'Ulminster Oxbridge'
The First-fire;..
Whenever the tribe make camp they form a circle, in the centre of the camp they build a fire. Sometimes this is enclosed by the dome structure known as 'The Bryan'. This fire is known as the First-fire. It is used to light any other fires around the circle and is the fire that is used in many of the tribal rituals and customs. Often, if fuel allows, this fire will be kept lit for the duration of the Tribe's stay in an area.
