The Halves are the spawn of Vampires and Humans.

They are usually accepted by humans, as long as they don't prove a threat, and resemble a human with vampiric qualities: Their incisors extend into fangs when feeding or angry, their skin is a light yellow tone (not as much as vampires), and their eyes change colors depending on their mood. They are unique in how they can be killed; once all of their blood is drained from their bodies can one truly die. This, however, is not the only way they die (see final paragraph).

Vampires, however, hate all Halves, and will go out of their way to kill any they find. The rage they feel towards these halfbreeds is so intense that some Vampires are known to go into a killer rage at the sight of one, forsaking all other targets until the Half is a bloody pile on the ground.

There are three ways that a Half can be made (in order of rarity/strength);

Recoverers: The strongest. A human recovers from the poison of a vampire. This is incredibly rare, and either signifies a weak vampire, a strong human, or divine intervention.

True Born: A pregnant human mother is bitten. The mother will become a Vampire, but her son or daughter will be a Half. These seldom survive, however, as Vampire women carrying Halves are known to impale themselves to kill the child before it as born, as it remains human as long as it is within her womb.

False Born: The weakest. A human injects vampire blood into himself. This is the weakest and most common form of Half. Generally only performed by humans desiring to increase their power, but still retain some part of their former self.

Halves live an exceptionally long time, the eldest approaching 400 years, but are not ageless. They will eventually die of age. They have the strength and speed of a vampire, but not nearly the stamina. They can survive on human food, but need to feed on blood to retain their power. However, this is part of their downfall; upon feeding, the vampiric instincts within them are brought forth in whole, and for a short time the Half is as a Vampire. The time they remain one is dependent on the strength (Recoverers last only a half hour, while False Borns will be vampiric for up to three hours.)
