Parasite Eve
Parasite Eve is set in New York, circa 1995. It concerns the story about Aya Brea, a NYPD cop who inherits certain powers after a kidney transplant from her sister, who was killed by a car crash when Aya was a little girl.
These powers help Aya against a threat to humanity, when EVE, a being based on mitochondria, the cells that provide energy which have been discovered to be seperate living organisms that live in the human body, possesses a singer called Melissa, in a concert in the Carnegie Hall, and spontaneously combusts everyone in the concert hall. Aya, protected by her own mitochondria, is the only one who isn't affected, and chases after Eve. Her only available friends are the cops with her at her station, including Daniel, her partner, and Kunihiko Maeda, a Japanese scientist with a detailed knowledge about mitochondria eve, as it happened before several years ago in Japan.
