Street Fighter 2

Chapter 16

Guy was jogging around the roads of Hong Kong early one morning, overseeing Victoria harbour. The usual bustle of ferries and fishermen could be seen even at this time of day, when hardly anyone woke up, let alone worked.
Jogging around Hong Kong at dawn was one of his favourite activities. It was a chance to be able to see Hong Kong by himself, to appreciate how quiet the city could be. While Maki was sleeping back at the hotel room, he would wake up, change into his jogging gear, and go all around North Point, the area where his hotel, the Newton Hotel was situated. Afterwards, he would come back to Maki, have a shower and get changed, and do whatever he and his girlfriend wanted to do. He shuddered at what might have happened if he had thrown away the tickets to Hong Kong after his break-up with his fiancée, Rena.
Hong Kong reminded Guy of Central Park in Metro City, with its sea of laughing, happy people, its green grass, the only green spot in the whole of the city, and it's precious air; it was like living in a separate small village that was overlooked by the towering skyscrapers of the city itself. The only difference was that this place was a lot bigger, and a hell of a lot nicer.
He stopped to take a breather in North Point Road, and checked his watch. It was time to head back to the hotel and plan the day's activities. Guy planned to take the ferry from North Point to the temples and churches.
He was about to turn to leave when he saw a young lady carrying two bags of groceries in her arms. What interested him was the fact that the lady wore two white buns on her head, just like Chun Li. He looked closer and gasped. It was Chun Li!
"Chun Li!" he cried out to her, waving his hand, hoping that she would notice.

Chun Li had woken up early in the morning before Ryu had awakened in order to do some early morning grocery shopping for breakfast. After several minutes in a small grocery store, she emerged with two full brown paper bags, holding one on each arm. She could barely see where she was going.
Then she heard her name. The voice seemed familiar, but with the bags in the way, she could not see who it was properly. She turned her head towards the direction of where the noise was coming from, and managed to see who it was that was calling her. Ryu's friend Guy was standing there, waving his arm and walking towards her. She put down one of the bags and waved her free hand.
Guy walked up to Chun Li with a smile on his face. "Hello, Chun Li. It's nice to see you again."
"Guy. I never expected to see you here."
"I'm on vacation. I had two tickets to Hong Kong and just had to use them."
"Oh, yeah. Your honeymoon tickets! How's Rina now that your married?"
Guy's head bowed forward, a sad expression on his face. "Rina…….and I….didn't get married in the end. She broke up our engagement."
Chun Li was shocked. "Oh, Guy. I'm so sorry, I didn't know."
"It's okay. I never told anyone about it except Maki."
"Really? How is Maki?"
"She's okay. Right now she's probably still sleeping in our bed."
"Your bed? You mean……"
"Yep." Guy's face beamed. "She and I got together in the end after my engagement with Rina broke up! I'm having the best time of my life here."
"Lucky you. I just wish I had someone to experience that now."
"You will. How is Ryu these days?" he asked with a smirk.
Chun Li stepped back in surprise when Guy changed the subject to Ryu. Her face turned to annoyance when she realised that he actually did it on purpose.
"Guy! It's not like that."
"Really? You seemed pretty love-struck when you were watching Ryu fight Bison."
Chun Li decided not to tell Guy about Bison's reappearance, it would only confuse things. "I'm telling you, it's not like that…….well……..not yet anyway."
"Ha! See, I caught you out there!"
"I just don't think he realizes it. He just never has any time, travelling around the world looking for fights all the time."
"He'll come to his senses, Chun Li. He just needs time to think about them. So how is he anyway, or have you been away from him for so long you've lost contact with him?"
"He's okay. He's in my apartment right now."
"Excellent. How about we get together sometime?"
"Sure, what are you doing for the next few days."
"Well, today we're going to the monasteries and temples, then we're going to do some shopping in Tsim Shat Sui the day after. What about the day afterwards. It's our final day here."
"Perfect. I'll tell Ryu you're here. It's good to see you again."
"Same to you. See you in two days time."
And with that, Guy jogged off. Chun Li watched him disappear, then picked up the other bag.
Damn, I should have asked him if he could carry one of my bags for me, she thought as she walked in a wavy line.

Chun Li returned straining under the weight of the groceries as she walked through the front door. After several hundred yards of walking with two heavy grocery bags that had no handles in her arms, she needed some rest before she would start cooking breakfast. She noticed that Ryu was still sleeping in his room as she past him. She decided to keep it that way.
After making a traditional Chinese bird's nest, she spooned a portion of it in Ryu's bowl and placed it on the breakfast tray. She glanced at her watch – 8:30 a.m.; he'd probably be awake by now. She walked into the room and saw Ryu sitting up in his bed.
"Good morning Ryu."
"Morning." Ryu said, yawning.
"I've brought you some breakfast. Did you sleep?" She placed the tray on Ryu's lap.
Ryu grinned back at her impishly. "Like Tutankhamun. It took me a while to realise where I was when I woke up."
She chuckled. Ryu was still used to sleeping on the road or in a cheap hotel. He did not usually sleep in someone else's home, except for Ken's of course.
"I went out for some groceries while you were still asleep. Guess who I bumped into on my way back. Guy."
"Guy? I haven't seen him for a while. How is he?"
"He's doing fine. He broke up his engagement with Rena a couple of weeks ago, but had managed to find a girlfriend. Remember Maki?"
"Yes, I remember her. Guy's best friend. Is she……"
"Guy's new girlfriend? Yeah. They're here on holiday with what was supposed to be Guy's honeymoon tickets. They'll be coming here the day after tomorrow."
"That's good. It will be nice to see them again."
Chun Li walked out as Ryu ate his breakfast. He was not used to having his breakfast delivered to him in the morning, but was enjoying it all the same. The bird's nest was his first ever Chinese breakfast he had when he first came to Hong Kong. It was nice of Chun Li to remind him of that time.

Ryu had just finished dressing into his jeans and T-shirt when Chun Li walked into the room. She was wearing a different outfit than what she was wearing before. She wore a royal blue dress that had a sweatshirt wrapped around her waist. Her hair was wrapped around in buns as usual.
"So, are you ready?"
"Ready? To go where."
"I want you to see a friend of mine. We're going to a restaurant in the Wan Chai district for lunch."
"Oh, okay."

The city was bustling from the usual tourists and businessmen as they arrived at the restaurant. Waiting for them in a simple yet fashionable dress, knee high stockings and small leather shoes, as well as her usual beret, was Cammy.
Chun Li and Ryu climbed out of the taxi and walked up to her, a cheery smile on her face.
"Hey!" Cammy called, waving her hand.
"Hey!" Chun Li called back, waving in return.
Chun Li and Ryu walked up to Cammy. Cammy stared in surprise at the man walking next to her friend.
"Cammy, I'd like you to meet Ryu Hoshi. Ryu, this is Cammy White."
They shook each other's hand, Cammy trying to ignore the pain from Ryu's grip.
He's a lot more muscular than I thought he would be! she thought.
Unknown to them, one of Bison's surveillance robots had discovered the three walking into the restaurant. One of the people was identified as the target. The silent machine walked towards the restaurant on the other side of the road. As soon as he was directly outside the restaurant, he turned and zoomed in on the three people.

"Sir, we have him."
Adon walked over to the operator behind the computer screen and looked at the feedback supplied by the surveillance robot. No doubt about it, they had found who they were looking for.
"Inform Lord Bison that we have located the target."
"Sir."

In the throne room, Bison sat impatiently as he waited for anything to happen. The plan to assassinate Ken had failed, and master Akuma was growing tired of waiting. Something had to happen, fast.
Suddenly, a communication warning appeared on his chair, and he pressed the button.
"What?"
"Sir, we've found him."
"Excellent. Display it onto my screen."
He swiveled his chair and faced the screen in front of him. The feedback from the robot's cameras displayed what he hoped for. Ryu showed up on the screen with two other people, both female. Bison recognized them as Detective Chun Li, and MI6 agent Cammy White.
Akuma showed up from behind and looked at the screen. An evil sneer spread across his face as the man he had been looking for was spotted.
"When will you attack?" he asked Bison.
"In a matter of days, master." Bison replied. He hated having to call Akuma 'master' when talking with him directly.
"Good." Akuma, satisfied, left Bison to watch Ryu eat his lunch with the two ladies.
He noticed that Detective Li was standing pretty close next to him…..
Adon contacted him again. "Sir, Vega and Balrog have both arrived."
"Send them here. I have an assignment for them."
"Yes sir."

Throughout the whole meal, Ryu had a feeling he was being watched. He did not know why, he had this feeling that someone was searching for him. As Chun Li and Cammy talked about things, he thought he saw out of the corner of his eye someone in a long overcoat, his head covered in a hood. He turned his head round to get a better view, but the figure had disappeared.
"What's wrong Ryu?" Chun Li asked as he noticed he was facing out of the window with an unsure look.
"I…..I just thought I saw something."
"I don't see anyone," said Cammy, who looked out of the window with Ryu. "Are you sure that you saw something?"
"No…..maybe it was my imagination. A trick of the eye."
"Your friend seems a little nervous." Cammy whispered to Chun Li without Ryu hearing her. "You think he knows yet?"
"I haven't told him. Besides, haven't we all got reasons to be jumpy?" Chun Li whispered back.
Ryu still looked out of the window. Was it a trick of the eye. He was sure he saw someone staring at him, and it wasn't Sakura.
He shrugged his shoulders and went back to eating and talking with Chun Li and his new-found friend.
